Lava is more a pit stop than a destination in my view. Tourist prefer staying at Lava as access to Loleygaon, Rishap & Kalimpong is easy from this place.

At 7000 feet altitude, 34 Km from Kalimpong, Lava is a small town and a popular tourist destination. Mr.Jiten, our driver told us that initially it was a very small town, and popular amongst bird watchers and Lepidoptera (butterfly enthused) only. Gradually it became popular to all, who needs some diversion from regular hill stations. It has got several tourist... More

1. Remote yet well connected from NJP. 2. Among the hill. 3. Surrounded by dense forest and mountain peaks. 4. Main attraction Lava monastery 5. One can stay here and feel solitude. 6. Momo, WAiWAi and maggie , easily available. 7. Avoid monsoon for landslides. .

We went Lava from Kalimpong and we didn't stay there. The place is nice. We visited a Monastery there, which is big in area and the surrounding area is nice. The place has got too many hotels and restaurants. Some are good and some are bad. You have to reach by road. This place is to enjoy the nature.

Awesome place, Monastery a must go. Local market is full of Bengalis serving Bengali foods. Lots of midrange hotels. Road is very steep so be ready for a tough walk everytime. The Lava monastery has no electric car service. Thus u need to take a walk till the top. Its strenuous but worth it. U can also visit Neora Valley... More

Lava is a very beautiful hamlet of Darjeeling; Its a small village with limited population, a market, school and a Buddhist temple named as Jamgyong Kongtrul Monastery. The young monks can be seen playing football. The natural beauty of this place is really pleasant. Lava is a good place for one days stay or a drive-pass.

You have to be a true nature lover to fall in love with Lava, as there is nothing much to do in the Small town other than watch the clouds play hide and seek. Suddenly the town is enveloped and drenched in rain and in the next hour clear skies. Surrounding scenery is mind blowing. The icing on the cake... More
