We stopped here expecting to see the remains of the shell mounds or at least some artifacts of historical significance. The only thing we saw were some benches around an area and a few local birds. Not worth the time to stop.

Wandering along the shell mound area feeling the ancient history we notice some blue herons over by the bay nearby. One flew then, one more and we watched as 6 or 7 graceful herons lifted off and flew overhead.

This has a most interesting history. I was fortunate to be with a local historian and biologist so I understand the history of the site. More signage would help the casual visitor. The numerous birds as well as the live oaks and the availability of...More

The live oaks are really pretty here. This is a small interesting historical spot. There is a short walking trail.

This rather unpretentious park has been a spiritual journey for me personally through the years and is one of the main reasons I come here from NW IN. It contains large mounds of layers of shells utilized as food for native Americans that can still...More

It only took us 15 minutes to walk through the park, interesting history and some great photo ops with spanish moss hanging from the trees!

A well-marked trail leads you around to a bit of history...Native American. These live oaks are 200 to 400 years old, some having ferns that are attached to them epiphytically (look it up!). You will also see smooth palmetto and yaupon holly. Bug spray!

It's a simple but unique spot for hike that is connected to the history of the island. The trees and flora make it a peaceful break in the busy day.

Walking through a piece of history. Wear mosquito spray in order to enjoy the walk. Places to sit along the way too.
