We were looking for a good walk and found it here. The bird sanctuary is an area of wilderness on the beach edge woven with walking tracks. We were surprised by the "don't feed the alligator" signs at the entry and naively thought them a joke until we found the lake! Spent some time on the dock watching the turtles... More

We loved visiting the Dauphiin Island Audubon Bird Sancuruary. We saw a lot of birds, but the highlight was this beautiful peregrine falcon.

Very nice somewhat tucked away spot. I like the wood path. Very well kept. I spent quite a while at the lake looking at the wildlife. Lots of turtles. Nice place to break away for a while.

This sanctuary is beautiful and has a huge variety of birds between the gulf shoreline, the pond and upper woodlands. Wish I could have spent the whole trip here. One downside is that it abuts the campground and families with children run along the trails, so it's hard to find a quiet spot. Every time the birds started to become... More

We took a late evening hike after our day on the beach. The trails start with well maintained boardwalks, then turn to primative. Tennis shoes would be better than flip flops and wear bug spray. Saw a few birds but I'm sure we would've seen more if it were spring or fall. We did see an alligator in the lake.... More

Probably the nicest nature place in Dauphin island. Some short trails and a beach access that go around a pound. We even saw a large alligator next to the pound. A great place for a end of day walk but not not forget your insect repellent!!

My husband and I did not see many birds while visiting Audubon, but we didn't mind. We enjoyed the lake and beach areas and did see a turtle. This is a nice place to get back to nature and get some exercise!

Despite the heat and humidity, I really enjoyed hiking around this sanctuary where migratory and native birds can find a place to rest before continuing on their journey or settle down and raise some babies. I saw egrets, green herons, pelicans, gulls, terns, and turtles. Enjoyed seeing the ocean and the large variety of plants. Enjoy your visit, but, remember,... More

Mostly a nature trail. Didn't see hardly any birds. Saw a soft shell and hard shell turtle in the lake. Not that interesting at all.

And a beautiful place to walk, and just look, and enjoy. I love doing those sort of things. The kids had a good time walking around. And, as sticky and humid as it was, it was very shady.
