I guess this place is called jewelry museum because there is another Baba Nyonya heritage museum down the road - and the other one is considered the main one. I visited this one first and loved it. The other one oozed of even more wealth, so choosing this one first is the way to go. It's a great insight into... More

Strait-born Chinese man married local Malay girl(s). Producing unique culture/heritage/history/language/food and off-springs call Baba(boy) & Nyonya(girl). Gifted, talented, explorers, adventurers, creative thinkers that became successful during the times of conquering super powers. Worth every penny for history lesson. RM15 during the weekday early. Unplanned visit and Zero crowd. Excellent presentation by guide.

Another house Peranakan, this one is special because of the quantity and quality of the jewelry on display.

This museum was next door to our hotel. It has an amazing collection of old gems and gold and furniture. A very impressive collection from several Baba and Nyonya families.

although the name is jewelry museum, this place also explain the history just like Baba & Nyonya museum but i found the explanation is not as thorough as the other one. I found the guide's explanation is a kinda in a hurry.

Zoe our guide was full of information and obviously passionate about her museum. She provided terrific insight into the life of the peranakan people. The exhibits were well organised and without Zoe to provide information it would have been quite boring. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Zoe has explained well about the history of baba nyonya interestingly. It is humourous and fun throughout the tour. Will surely recommend others to join the tour within first day in melaka as it will make your whole trip better with more understanding.

Tucked in a cosy corner of a museum, this quaint restaurant not only has a relaxing ambience about it but the welcoming aromas from the excellent Nyonya laksa will entice you to unwind from the outside heat. While space is limited, the quality of the food served makes up for the wait.

We chanced upon this museum because the Baba & Nonya Heritage Museum was closed at lunchtime. I wasn't expecting much, but the forty five minute encounter with Peranakan jewellery gave deep insights into its ornate culture. Sara was a friendly and helpful tour guide who impressed us in speaking the Peranakan language, a mixture of Hokkien, Chinese and Malay.
