Fun place to stroll around and get lost in time. There is no admission fee. The buildings are from the Ming and Qing era and are well maintained. It is a water town with numerous bridges. There are lots of food choices to try.

A very quiet and old-world feel is in the air in the Fengjing River Town area. Small buildings, craft shops, private homes all on the edge of the river/canal system. Interesting stone bridges, old style architecture, local people playing cards on the street in front of their homes. You can't feel any further from the downtown Shanghai towers and crowds... More

Compared with the other water towns around SH, this one is rather unspoiled. Yes there are tourists, but far less then in others. Saw a few tens of Chinese tourists, no Westerners, but then it is no longer the tourist season, a working day and not the best weather. The town feels original, yes with loads of shops, but mostly... If you have a chance to get out to this beautiful water town, you won't be disappointed. It was reasonably busy with Chinese tourists, but as westerners, we appeared to be the only ones, as such, we ended up in a few photos, as people took photos of us, either walking or in the little boat on the canal. The... More

- location: about 60km to the southern east from Shanghai - travel: take metro to JinJiang Park station (line 1) and get of to take the highway bus (50 minutes); taxi or drive there is ok too. Last bus from shanghai is about midnight, last bus from Fengjing is 9:00pm - beauty and peaceful ancient village. Some ancient houses/spot required... More

We visited the village with friends and kids, nice setting, nice street scenes. You can visit the town for free, but you can also get an access pass to visit several houses and exhibition. The visit are well worth it. Only typical Chinese street food and local restaurant. A Starbucks is being built but not available yet.

Spent an afternoon exploring the area. Not too bad, like other water towns... but upkeep is a bit run-down. The put-off: they sell dog meat! Yucks! I'm not a dog lover but...

Fengjing is a stretch of streets along two canals with lots of shops and restaurants. It was raining the day we went, so we did not take any of the boat rides. Most walkways are covered to provide shelter from rain and sunshine, so it is worth going at any kind of weather. We learnt about chinese life and chinese... More

a wonderful contrast to the pulsing Shanghai downtown is this ancient little village just at the outskirts (roughly 1 hour travel time). History has been preserved in a way that it is easy to recognize how social systems in the environment have functioned. Local handmade production of various goods, a nice little shopping street, teahouses, channels on which you can... More
