Located on the hillside of the Sheshan mountain (hill?), this is an attraction that can be combined easily with visiting the Sheshan Basilica (on the hilltop) and Sheshan Forest Park (in which the observatory/astrological museum is located). This is nowadays called Shanghai Astronomical Museum and provides interesting exhibition for the history of astronomical study in China. The old telescope is also nice & views from the observatory roof are very nice. Next door there is Catholic church too. Part of the museum has signage also in English+French. Entrance 12RMB.

It's a nice walk to the observatory and only 12rmb to get in, but its full of rude Chinese tourists. Really, it isnt worth going.

But you do not need to spend too much time on the small hill with the cathedral. The standard of the cable car is low, the nearby restaurants terrible - but it is a nice stop on the way to other destinations in this area.
