We had a great time at the zoo that's located in a huge park. Nice for some green outdoor time. Good variation of animals so take at least a few hours. There are several basic food/noodle shops for lunch. Easy access from metro line 10, Shanghai Zoo stop, exit 1. On the negative side, many of the large carnivore animals... More

This Place you can plan for Children , but not so Good , as I have seen better Zoos than this . Its Very Far from the City also need to plan to take your Food along with you . Long Walks but you can see some Specific Animals Like PANDA and WHITE TIGER . Other than that I do... More

Needs work as zoos go. Come on Shanghai you can do better than this! A major city has to have a major zoo. Read the detail review.

I considered this a second tier Shanghai attraction and was prepared to be disappointed. I chose a week day for my visit so not to coincide with large crowds but there were a number of noisy school excursions. The children did not behave well around the animals and disciplined supervision was absent. The same can be said for enforcement of... More

I don't know how anyone can give the zoo a positive review. The large animal enclosures are a disgrace. The Bears , Gorillas and hyenas were pacing back and forth looking disturbed, in enclosures that were concrete jungles no grass and looked like they had no upgrade in a very very long time. The grounds of the zoo have lovely... More

We went to the zoo with our guide, Ms. Bonnie of China Odyssey tours and viewed the Panda's. They eat bamboo, sleep, and act cute. We are glad we could see them, as Vincent (vincent@chinaodyssey) arranged for us to see them in the morning before we left Shanghai. You need a couple of hours to see the whole zoo.

Usually I don't visit zoo's since you only get sad there. Now we went there to see Giant Pandas. It was a little bit dissapoinment, since two Pandas were very inactive and needed badly good wash. They were black and gray, not black and white. But the zoo itself was positive surprice. There was a lots of room, trees, flowers,... More

This zoo has many large, open areas for picnicking or other outdoor activity that has nothing to do with the zoo itself. The zoo attractions are average. For a better animal experience, you may try the Wildlife Park, which is much further from the center of Shanghai, but much more complete.

This is one of those zoos made for human entertainment only. Even though it states several places thay the purpose is preservation of animals etc, it is done in a very poorly manner. Animals have very little space, some not even green areas (this was the case for some of the monkeys). Some of the animals are clearly affected and... More

My son and I spend a whole afternoon here... about 5 hours. I was very tentative after seeing some reviews about animals not being kept properly... but barring giraffe, ape and elephants I thought all others were in decently large enclosures... of course a zoo cannot be a wild jungle. All animals were in good shape and we were particularly... More
