Yuyuan is a bustling marketplace set in an old Chinese neighborhood with traditional architecture and shops selling everything from dumplings to kitsch. A great place for people-watching and picking up Chinese souvenirs, and close to the nearby Yuyuan Gardens.

This place is simply overcrowded. Moving along the edges is OK, but once you come into the middle of the place it becomes a nightmare. Same items are cheaper in streets around the market. Do avoid the Chinese Fastfood place at all cost - terrible...More

So much to see and do, from larger shops, museums and craft type stalls. We had an amazing time and could have spent twice as long. The smells the sites and the history make this a must visit.

Interesting place to be in Shanghai after all the modern look a place with the image of China in my mind. Lots of shops inside but shops on surrounding streets are cheaper on same items.

I really enjoy the Chinese New Year Lantern Festival at Yuyuan Gardens. The details are amazing and worth the effort of the jostling crowds. Best to go at night to see them at their best. If you wait long enough, the crowds will lessen to...More

referred to as Yuyuan Garden) draws hordes of tourists
every day, but wandering the streets around the
