This is an ideal family excursion for all ages. Zooave is a special kind of "zoo" in that the animals have been rescued from injuries and illness and are helped and protected until that they can be released back to the wild. They are living iin areas similar to their natural habitat, and some of the animals roam around freely--for... More

Aside from being close to San Jose, ZooAve has a beautiful collection of birds and other animals endemic to Costa Rica. Being a rescue center for animals found in captivity illegally add to the importance of the place and raises awareness in the damage humans cause on wildlife.

The selection of birds is outstanding along with the fact it is breeding and rehabilitation area to repopulate them to other parts of Costa Rica made it especially great. Also, the natural wildlife setting for many animals made some areas seem more a walk in the wild than a zoo. We found the place to be very clean and welcoming... More

Only 15 to 20 minutes from the airport, this is good activity before jumping your late afternoon flight back to the US. Plan on spending 90 to 120 mintues touring the small zoo park. You will see many species of various animals from birds of prey, to owls, crocodiles, emu's, pumas, large cats, raptures, and yes monkeys. For non-residence the... More

If you're in the area, would recommend not missing this zoo. There are huge iguanas and peacocks wandering the grounds, and many other beautiful animals. Plenty of colorful parrots and macaws, and a toucan with a prosthetic bill! Even a few sloths, which are actually pretty fun to watch. The restaurant there is very nice, especially compared to the usual... More

We went here for our kid's 3rd birthday. We had planned to spend a few hours, but in the end we went fairly quickly through the park (kid was whiny and hungry). The place is really nice, though, and it's great that it's a sanctuary and rescue center, despite the misnomer. It was just the right amount of time and... More

It is not a zoo although it works in very close similar concept. I loved to hear that their main purpose is conservatism therefor animals there is because they were rescued. The have long trails and lots of animals specially birds.

we got the feeling of Costa Rica here - all kind of exotic animals: we saw monkeys, Alligator, toucan, etc. All kinds of Beautiful flowers and trees around as well. we loved this place, the only downsize of it - if you are a tourist, they charge you about 4 times more than locals :(

Nice place to go, not the typical zoo, but wild animals that have been rescued. Lots of birds, Toucans, owls, monkeys, Iguanas, and other animals endemic to the region.

We went there to see Costa Rican animals and we're not disappointed. It's a zoo, but for recovery of hurt animals. The enclosures were clean, well maintained. Saw toucans, sloths, macaws, monkeys, lots of different birds., Tapir, ocelot. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves
