Experience Arenal´s only wild frog sanctuary at night, when colorful tree frogs and other rainforest wildlife are most active and most easily observed. At least 28 frog species have made their home the ponds of Arenal Oasis. The Rojas Bonilla family carefully maintains native plants of Arenal, to create needed frog habitat in this private wildlife reserve of fresh spring water fed ponds; within a rainforest refuge connecting the rainforests of the Arenal Volcano and El Rio Burio.

The night tour continues past the frog ponds along flat trails immersed in the noisy night rainforest. The guide will point out animals hiding from you.

Support, enjoy and learn about the only wild frog sanctuary in the Arenal Volacano Area.

Tours led by trained naturalist along flat rainforest trails start at 5:45pm at Arenal Oasis. Flashlights are provided and reservations are necessary.

Branden is a wonderful guide. We had a perfect evening, seeing eleven different types of frogs, snakes, lizards and other interesting creatures. If you want to see the most amazing frogs and have a good time: go on this trip. It's worth it and you will not regret it.

Definitely need a guide for the night walk. Our guide,Angelo Bejarano was exceptional in his expertise in finding the various species of snakes, frogs, & insects specific to this area. Wonderful experience!

We went here for a jungle night hike! It was pretty cool. It's pretty amazing how lively the jungle is at night. The tour is safe as you walk on a path with a guide. It was the only time we were able to see the neat frogs that are always in the photos. Definitely worth it!

We say and photographed the iconic red eyed, green and blue frog! This was very high on our want to see list. Also many other frogs, including a small yellow tree frog perched on a leaf. This in spite of being outside the wet season which is best for viewing wildlife. Our guide was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and chatty; a... More

When visiting La Fortuna I was lucky to enjoy two wonderful wildlife watching walks arranged via Arenal Oasis. The morning walk was to watch birds of which we saw many varieties, some at close proximity at feeder stations and others in their natural surroundings. Our guide, Gustavo Rojas Madrigal was superb. He had great skill in spotting birds, giving us... More

We took a nigh tour at 17:45 and were not disappointed. We saw 11 different kind of frogs (incl. blue jeans (strawberry poison dart frog) and the famous red eyed tree frog that you find on lots of postcards and travel guides). You were able to see almost all the frogs very close up, so don't forget to take your... More

We did a 5:30 am bird watching tour and the site is also an ecolodge. We walked with a guide, which I highly recommend, and started the first two hours walking along the road. Although the road is not a lovely place to walk, there were many birds on the trees and power lines as a habitat boundary. The guide... More

We really wanted to do a night tour but didn't get one on our agenda with the tour company, Pacific Trade Winds. Since EVERYTHING this company has organized for us on this trip was money, I knew I had to go back to them. They set ups up with Arenal Oasis Wildlife Refuge and I am glad. It seems that... More

We enjoyed this place very much! From the gardens area to the forest trails, it was all great, and we saw birds here that we didn't find the rest of our trip through Costa Rica. They also have a quaint breakfast cafe that serves great food and you have close-hand viewing of birds that come to the nearby feeders.

We weren't sure what to expect - particularly as the first (of 12) frog species we saw was the size of a finger nail but after two hours we were absolutely amazed. The guides are great communicators and can handle questions from novice to expert level. The red eyed tree frog was obviously the high point but we left with... More
