We had a lovely time on our guided tour. Alex was amazing, so knowledgeable, full of facts and stories about the animals we saw, and made sure we got the best views of the sloths. We also saw an anteater, frogs, lizards, and more. He was also respectful of our fear of snakes! He was genuinely interested in ensuring we saw all the animals and took delight in his job. He jelped us get the best photos too. Definitely book a tour with Alex at Bogarin while in Fortuna!

Our guide Ronald was very knowledgeable and carried an almost childlike sense of wonder that was very infectious. His English was superb and he made sure to point out all the connections between the members of the entire forest ecosystem. Highly recommend!

We did the night tour and William was an amazing guide. His father is the namesake of the trail, so he’s been around from the beginning and had some incredible knowledge to share about not just the wildlife we saw on the tour, but also the history of the region from the 1968 volcano eruption to the first tourists who visited the area to now. I was impressed by how well he was able to spot the animals; I was wondering if a guided tour would be worth it over exploring the area on my own and it turned out that having a guide was well worth it. At the end, they had some pineapple prepared for us to top it all off!

Our tour guide, William, made this activity a hit for the entire family. He was so knowledgeable about the area, the history, and the animals it made a complete difference. Our two teen boys talked about William the rest of the trip and compared every other tour guide we encountered to him.
We were able to see so many animals and the short amount of time. Had we not had a guided tour, I'm not sure we would have seen much of anything except trees.

Great guide for the nature tour. If we hadn’t gotten the guide we wouldn’t have seen most of what he pointed out to us. Our guide was great at capturing pictures with my phone of the animals we saw. My favorite were the frogs!

This tour was awesome! William was an amazing guide! The knowledge and stories he shared made our experience great. We got to see a wide variety of wildlife with our expert guide. So glad we paid for the guided tour because we never would have found them all ourselves!

Fantastic nature spot so near La Fortuna! Out guide, Alex, was wonderful at spotting so many different species as we walked around the area. Having a guide is the way to go - we would never have seen as much as we did!

Great tour, Alex was very knowledable & worked hard to ensure our entire group was able to see as many animals as possible. He took the best pictures through the scope for all of us. Love that a portion of the ticket goes to planting new fruit trees so you can see more animals and it helps preserve nature.

A great tour with guide Alex who gave everything to give us a unique experience. Lots of super well-camouflaged slots, even with baby, that we would never have found alone. Thanks to the super telescope we were able to make really great observations.
Also many other animals Alex was able to show us and tell us a lot of interesting facts. In addition, he took photos for us with our phone that we could never have taken ourselves in this quality. This was probably the best tour on our whole trip!

Don’t waste your time and money. I’d have preferred to stay at the hotel and relax in the hot springs then waste our time and money here. My husband and I went here hoping to see wildlife after seeing nothing but a poisonous snake at Mystico. It was raining when we went which likely caused the animals to hide as well, however this was the biggest waste of time and money on our entire trip! It was muddy, and we saw more wildlife on our hotel property than at this place. Don’t come here expecting to see anything!!!

Hi there looking for a tour for 4 adults in the next 3 days. Do you have availability and how much please would it be? Thank you
Written 26 July 2022
I agree with everyone that a guide is worth the money. All the people working there were pleasant and helpful, a group of 4 people should not be a problem if you just show up. I’d go early, your admission is good all day, you could take a break (there’s a good food court type place nearby) and go back and wander around on your own.

Hi, do you recommend this tour for a family with a toddler? Thanks

Hi,
Yes of course!
Our trails are under shade and flat all the time, very easy trail for a whole family.

We called the day of to inquire about a tour. They let us know the prices. They offered to have us book over the phone but we just let them know we were going to arrive in about an hour and ended up booking upon arrival. Highly recommend going with the guide to be able to see the wildlife.

Is it necessary to books tour ahead of time for April or are tours usually available same day?
Written 9 March 2020
You can show up minutes before any guided tour scheduled, but we recommend to save your space in advance since we work with small groups. Besides booking is free of charge!

We toured with Geovani over 12 yrs ago and loved his tour. He was an amazing bird guide and absolutely passionate about birds. I would love to contact him if we come again. Does anyone have his contact info? Thanks!
Written 30 January 2020
Agreed. They are very responsive. Not sure if they would give his personal information out specifically, but it seems that he is often there and I think he had a public email or social media page to reach him at.

Hello. Do I have to take the tour and pay $35 or I can just pay the general entrance fee $10 and tour on my own? Thanks

Get a guide for this tour! We thought we could do CR without a guide and finally broke down after many hikes of not seeing anything. This was my absolute favorite thing we did. The guide William was fantastic he showed us the blue jean frog, the red eye tree frog, 7 sloths and some caiman along with tons of birds. I can honestly say we would not have seen anything but maybe one sloth if we had been on our own. Also had great conversation about his life growing up in CR.

How do I contact the owners to book a guided day hike and a guided night hike? Thank you!
Written 17 April 2019

Good Luck

What is the best time of day to do this tour to see the most sloth activity? We'll be there the first week of September. Thanks!
Written 22 January 2019
We were there mid-afternoon in March and saw about 10 sloths, including one that was wide awake !

We will be visiting in April and staying at Tabacon. Does anyone have any experience with getting transportation to the trail without a rental car. Assuming we can just take a taxi but just curious of others experience. Thanks!
Written 28 December 2018
You can ask at the Reception of Tabacon Hotel to call a taxi for you. We have many clients that have been doing that :)
