We had a wonderful experience here. Guide Alex was so kind and could show us so much. The first day it was raining to much, but he invited us back the next morning. This time the weather was perfect. We saw many sloths, birds, including an owl, frogs and even a fer de lance snake. The atmosphere was really great, and we would definitely recommend.

Absolute highlight of my trip. Tucked away just a few minutes from the town this place is a must for nature lovers. In myb2 hour guided visit we saw 7 sloths? Loads of birds, snakes, frogs, agouti and various insects. The guides are so kind and knowledgeable 100% worth paying the extra as they take time to point out everything and carry a scope for close up viewing.
Everyone visiting the area MUST visit this place and allow a good 3 hours to do the tour and have time to enjoy the wildlife by the reception area.

We took a 9 mo old on this tour and had an extraordinary experience. We passed him back and forth as we looked through the scope to see 8! sloths. We also saw frogs! Really enjoyed the tour guide as he told us interesting facts. Good walking shoes are required! An umbrella was useful! Enjoyed sliced pineapple at the end. There were opportunities to photograph birds as well. We washed up at the sink near the entrance.

We visited on a morning that started out with heavy rain. Our guide, Alex, provided umbrellas in addition to the rain ponchos we brought. Throughout the tour, Alex was patient, enthusiastic, and made sure we each got a good look at the sloths through his scope. He even took photos and videos with our phones through his scope. We saw several sloths, including a very big and “active” male and a mama with her baby. On our first pass while it was still raining, the sloths were huddled up and sleeping so Alex made sure to take us back near the end of the tour so that we could see them awake. We also saw several tiny strawberry dart frogs and a family of little armadillos. Alex is very knowledgeable and obviously loves his work and wants to make sure everyone enjoys the experience. I highly recommend this easily accessible tour!

We decided to visit the Boragin Sloth trail because we really wanted to see sloths. We decided to pay an extra $15 per person to have a tour guide and it was money well spent. I can't imagine actually finding any sloths or other animals without a guide. Eduardo, who is one of three brothers who own the land, was out guide. He was very knowledgable and we spotted 6 sloths! He would even put our phones and cameras up to the scope to get close up pictures. Great experience all around!

This was the only place we saw sloths during our two weeks in CR. Tons of poison dart frogs as well. We did not pay extra for guide and are happy with that decision as we saw so much. Definitely recommend.

Best sloth tour ever!!!!
Our guide-Alex is really patience, kind and full of knowledge about all kinds of animals, plants and frogs!
We found 8 sloths today!!!! 1 male, 2 babies and 5 females!
Besides that, we saw a porcupine sleeping right in front us!! Just one feet long, and i can see his closed eye!!!
Really like the stories and all kind of knowledge behind the animals which Alex told us!
It was reaaaaally awesome! If you go to La Fortuna, you should not miss Bogarin Trail!!

We went on a morning guided tour with Edwardo Bogarin. He is one of 9 of the Bogarin brothers. Many work there and grew this trail over the past 20 years. While you can walk the trail without a guide, there is no way you could see half of the things we saw without a guide that knows where to look. We saw snakes, toucans, frogs, insects and of course so many sloths. The history of the trail and these animals in the history of Costa Rica was very interesting. Worth it for a guided tour!

I agree with everyone that a guide is worth the money. All the people working there were pleasant and helpful, a group of 4 people should not be a problem if you just show up. I’d go early, your admission is good all day, you could take a break (there’s a good food court type place nearby) and go back and wander around on your own.

We called the day of to inquire about a tour. They let us know the prices. They offered to have us book over the phone but we just let them know we were going to arrive in about an hour and ended up booking upon arrival. Highly recommend going with the guide to be able to see the wildlife.

You can show up minutes before any guided tour scheduled, but we recommend to save your space in advance since we work with small groups. Besides booking is free of charge!

We toured with Geovani over 12 yrs ago and loved his tour. He was an amazing bird guide and absolutely passionate about birds. I would love to contact him if we come again. Does anyone have his contact info? Thanks!

Agreed. They are very responsive. Not sure if they would give his personal information out specifically, but it seems that he is often there and I think he had a public email or social media page to reach him at.

Hello. Do I have to take the tour and pay $35 or I can just pay the general entrance fee $10 and tour on my own? Thanks

Get a guide for this tour! We thought we could do CR without a guide and finally broke down after many hikes of not seeing anything. This was my absolute favorite thing we did. The guide William was fantastic he showed us the blue jean frog, the red eye tree frog, 7 sloths and some caiman along with tons of birds. I can honestly say we would not have seen anything but maybe one sloth if we had been on our own. Also had great conversation about his life growing up in CR.

What is the best time of day to do this tour to see the most sloth activity? We'll be there the first week of September. Thanks!

We will be visiting in April and staying at Tabacon. Does anyone have any experience with getting transportation to the trail without a rental car. Assuming we can just take a taxi but just curious of others experience. Thanks!

You can ask at the Reception of Tabacon Hotel to call a taxi for you. We have many clients that have been doing that :)
