Volcan Poas is a great day trip in the central valley. The main crater is amazing, and hiking through the cloud forest to the lagoon is beautiful.

After 2.5 hours driving, we arrived at Poas to find it had been closed due to volcanic activity since April this year. No info on the closing on google or TripAdvisor.
