You will have fun either way. If it is sunny a good view of the volcano. If it is raining a good rain forest hike. You will see good flora and fauna. Make sure you have somebody who can explain them better. We had a good guide. If it is cloudy and raining, you will not see crater. It still... More

The Poas Volcano was the first stop of many on our all-day tour. After a long trek up to the national park, our van parked in a small parking lot outside the gift shop and cafe. The weather was particularly bad. Cold rain beat down on us while walking the paved trail and the fog was so thick you couldn't... More

Our tip up the mountain was shrouded in fog and upon our arrival it was raining lightly and a cold breeze was blowing. When we stepped out of our tour bus we had just about given up hope of seeing anything of the volcano. Amazingly, 15 minutes later the sun was shining brightly and we had an absolutely fabulous view... More

Unfortunately, weather plays a big part in visiting Poas. But even with rain and cloud cover we were happy to be there. The volcano is surrounded by wonderful trails boardered by fantastic trees, ferns and vines. Go with the attitude to enjoy whatever you can see while there.

It is a very nice place, but I gave only 3 stars because of the entry free, which is ridiculously expensive for a place you visit in 2 hours. Bring your own food since there are only snacks available, and for what they charge for it, you might want to bring along a caviar sandwich.

The park itself is beautiful and it was nice watching the hummingbirds and examining the amazing flora in the area, but the fog was so dense we couldn't see the volcano at all. I guess there's no telling what the weather will bring, but if you can plan this for a clear day, that would be ideal.

If you have never seen a volcano this is crazy beautiful! The trick is to go right when the park opens and to be patient. It was one of the most beautiful surreal places I have ever seen. The crater lake is intoxicating, but the sulfur does start to get to you. Abide by the 20 minute rule.

We rented a car and drove up the mountain to the top of Poas. We went during 'green season' and you should be aware that you are taking a chance on not seeing anything. Of course the clouds were so thick we could not see the crater, however, the hiking through the cloud forest was stunning. The hike is about... More

I wish I could give 5 stars but since it was very fogy we did not see the lake. However even thou it was pouring rain we still had a great time and enjoyed the walk.

As an active volcano, the views here change every few minutes. When we arrived, after a nice drive through the Costa Rican countryside, the volcano was totally obscured. We could easily been disheartened after driving so far. However, with a little patience, the wind changes directions and you get great views of the volcano. Then they will go as quick... More
