So far one of the most charming buildings I saw in Costa Rica. Yellow, grey and white are the predominant colors of the Byzantine style basilica that hosts the virgen of the angels, the national patron of Costa Rica. For many people the church is a place of pilgrimage. They come here to pray and ask for some favor e.g.... More

The place is beautiful both inside and out. There is a back underground area where you can see the gifts to the church for miracles. I recommend a stop if in the area.

The interior is flooded with light which shows off the spacious architecture. The banner by the entrance is fascinating for what it bans: firearms; heavy petting; etc. The crypt, full of religious trinkets, is interesting but rather creepy for non-catholics.

This church has a lot of devoted visitors year round. Its beautiful architecture and internal decorations. Also there is to visit a Holy water kind of spring and the original place where the virgin showed up.

Such a beautiful and serene basilica in Cartago, about half an hour bus ride from Curridabat, south east of San Jose. This building is almost 400 years old but beautifully renovated and maintained. The art on the glass windows is very unique and beautiful.

The light gives something very special to this cathedral. I have visit a lot of european cathedral and church and this one has something special with their tiny yellow windows surrounding the church.

This is the most beautiful church I have visited in Costa rica. WOw the structure of the church you can tell it has a touch of European style. On the bottom floor is like a mini museum, with pictures of all the virgin from most countries. also have on display the original rock where the Virgin of Los Angeles appeared.... More

The tile work in this church is amazing. The history of the church and its continued relevance today are also very interesting to learn about and observe (or participate in for the faithful).
