If you are near or going through Nicoya, it is worth a drive by and a picture. It is only a historical building now and. Othman active church, but it is in the center (main square of Nicoya). We could not go in as it is closed but we did take a few pics.

Founded in 1644 it is considered one of the oldest churches in Costa Rica. Simple but beautiful architecture (if you're into that sort of thing). Unfortunately, it's closed to the general public because of structural damage from an earthquake few years ago but they still hold special services occasionally. In front of the church is the lovely and well tended... More

Church of San Blas at Nicoya church the oldest church in Costa Rica is closed for refurbishment so all you can see if you drive all the way out there is the outside of the building. There's nothing you can see on the inside of this very small Costa Rican historical church.

Amazing to visit such a place with so much age.....to think this particular building predates pretty much anything of European design in North America. It was closed when we visited as they are trying to repair and restore structural damage sustained during the areas last major earthquake. Still worth... More

Unfortunately, this lovely buiding has been badly damaged by the recent earthquakes. However, a soon as remedial works have been completed. it will be well worth visiting this historoc church.

The small church of San Blas is different from other churches you might have seen and absolutely worth a visit if you are in the area. A small exhibition of portraits and some oringinal interior can be seen ... and if you are lucky you can see the keeper of the clock rewinding her every other day ... :-)
