Loved this beach! This area is very high end for CR. Massive yacht in the marina and a lot of development going on. We rented a tent and chairs from a vendor. We’ll worth the $30. So glad we had shade. Water was perfect and the clearest I’ve seen in CR. My husband got an hour massage for $40 and said it was awesome! Will definitely be back to this beach!!!!

This is such a beautiful beach. We spent a few hours here. Lots of super-soft sand and lots of shells. We walked for miles. great beach for families or couples.

We decided to stay near Playa Flamingo because of the many reviews that list it as one of the best or even the best beach in Costa Rica. It does have whiter sand and is overall pretty in the morning, but it was also fairly crowded when we first went there and the water quite honestly smelled strange. The surf was also a bit too rough for swimming. Finally the condos that surround it make it feel less like Costa Rica than a typical stretch of coastline in California (with much warmer water). So all in all, I wouldn't go out of my way to come to this area of beaches and would choose another area for a more jungle meets water experience, which Costa Rica has further south. The morning when it is mostly isolated is the best time to be there.

I was not expecting red tide which is a lung and skin irritant at playa Flamingo in May 2022. You can smell it as you walk the beach, it also washes up as a yellowish green foam, I did not want to swim here. While many people call these blooms 'red tides,' scientists prefer the term harmful algal bloom. One of the best known HABs occurs nearly every summer along Florida’s Gulf Coast. This bloom, like many HABs, is caused by microscopic algae that produce toxins that kill fish and make shellfish dangerous to eat. The toxins may also make the surrounding air difficult to breathe. As the name suggests, the bloom of algae often turns the water red. This was quite a surprise since eco tourism is Costa Rica’s most important industry, just thought you all should be aware.

This is a nice long beach with beautiful sand. When we were there the waves were good enough for some body surfing but once past the one break was smooth. We rented a tent and chairs (and parking) for our larger group for $20 (but could probably negotiate lower) from some guys on the street. But they weren't pushy about it. We sat across from Margaritaville and used their bathroom for changing. You can buy drinks and food from vendors on the street if you want (our neighbors had a pineapple filled with what appeared to be rum). Highly recommend for a day at the beach.
