Stuck in the ocean after dark for over two hours. The captain left to go find another boat. Had a family of 17 with 9 kids. Pretty scary experience.

We booked Brindisi for our family of five to go snorkeling. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our guide, Fernando, was patient with our two younger ones (11 and 13) who were doing it for the first time. We saw lots of fish, a few small white tip sharks, and more. Fernando always had a life preserver with him and for the first snorkel we also brought two noodles in case the kids got tired. Everyone used one of the flotation devices at least once during the 40 min in the water as it is surprisingly tiring to snorkel. The equipment was clean and fitted well. My husband spotted whales and the captain immediately took time for the group to watch them swim and come up for air. That was awesome. My husband, a licensed 30-ton boat captain himself, stood on the bridge the entire time and spoke with the captain in Spanish. This made me feel doubly safe as it is always hard to tell if you are with an experienced captain or not. Be sure to ask questions about the boat, its age, the captain, etc as many of these boats are subcontracted out for the experience. There should be a whole other category for determine the best boats and boat captains in the area as this is a customary practice for many of the guide groups.

The areas for improvement / tips good to know would be:
- Currently (Oct 2020) they are only accepting cash. Was not communicated up front so we had to scramble a little to pay them for the experience at the end.
- It was described to me to be a "public boat" experience. What this means is that a boat is chartered and different guides can bring their groups onto the boat for the experience. The boat was not overloaded but it was definitely full.
- During Covid - because of the tighter conditions, I was very aware that we were among lots of different people from different countries and different lodgings in the area. Obviously we were outside the entire time and people were conscious with some people wearing masks but not everyone. Covid rules were entirely lax and no cohesion because there were different groups. That is a dangerous mix. In addition there was a waiver signed but no sheet to sign saying your contact # or place of lodging or way to contact trace if someone came down with Covid (Costa Rica is not prepared for this inevitable wave due to increased tourists in Nov/ Dec)
- Snack and water were made available but during orientation BUT it was not communicated about where life vests were available in case of emergency. Our family has spent a lot of time on boats and so we asked but A MAJOR oversight at the beginning of any boat trip.

Overall the experience was very enjoyable because it went entirely smoothly for our family but I definitely know more questions to ask the next time I book such a trip in the area as we hope to do more during our several weeks in Costa Rica.

Took a half day trip. We saw whales, sea turtles, dolphin and caught 9 tuna! One of the staff cut up one of the tunas and made some delicious sashimi!! At the end, we asked if there was a place we could go swimming and they took us to an island where we swam to shore and saw some monkeys. It was an amazing day. Staff and the Captain were extremely attentive the entire day. I will definitely use this charter again when we come back to CR!

Captain Rolando and First Mate David are awesome hosts!
They attended to our every need, as well as took us to their “favorite” fishing holes - we caught three Wahoos among all of the other sport fish.
We had an amazing time!!! Thank you!

1. We slow rode out to the fishing grounds. Maybe 10 knots of speed. 1 hour and 20 minutes. I am not opposed to this amount of travel time to the fish. But when our fishing day was done, we make quick time home, More like 15 or 18 knots.

2. The refrigerator on the boat did not have a latch on the door. We experienced some rough water and our lunches were tossed from the refrigerator onto the floor of the boat and sat there for an unknown time in warm air. We did not have lunch on the boat. They did provide one bag of potato chips and 3 individual bags of peanuts for the 3 of us.

3. After 1 1/2 hours without a bite. I questioned the deck hand if changing bait or presentation would be a good idea. He thought otherwise. After 2 1/2 hours without a bite he finally checked the bait. The ballyhoo was intact and he put the same bait in the water. After this at the 3 hour mark, still without a bite and only me and my sons spotting fish and pointing them out to the boat crew. (who never spotted them on their own), I decided to suggest changing to inshore. The hope was we would change bait and tactics. Then we slow rode it back inshore trolling with the same old bait thru unproductive waters. Once inshore the deck hand pulled in the bill fish attractor and changed the teasers on the outriggers. We did catch one fish on the day. Once our fishing time was up. I witnessed the deck hand remove the bait that had been on the line 7 hours and put it in the cooler with the rest of the unused bait. The only reason I can image doing this was to reuse the bait for their next customers. I wonder if our bait had been used on a prior trip as well.

I have had many slow days of fishing. I am not complaining about not catching fish. My issue was stated above and the failure of the crew to change up what was not working, and writing it off to a slow day. NOT CHANGING TO FRESH BAIT PERIODICALLY IS UNACCEPTABLE. Changing presentation is also a good idea.

I’ve been on quite a few trips fishing/surfing/snorkeling/Scuba/cruising trips( Mexico, Nicaragua, Cuba, Costa Rica , Panama, California, Florida ) & it’s never guaranteed as to what you will catch &/or do.

It’s best to research the local information/conditions based on historical averages to determine what the ideal conditions are for any given activity.

That being said it’s also important to diversify your vacation time with alternative activities & that’s where Brindisi group delivers.

With the largest fleet of cruisers in Playa Flamingo, airport transfers/shuttle, Brindisi has the best option of activities in the area.

The roads in the Brasilito/Flamingo area have all been repaved & the country is investing heavily in the areas infrastructure due to the new marina being built. There was no disruption in access to the fleet on our visit.

Our trip consisted of several dives, day cruising & some light offshore fishing, all of which were great experiences.

Day trips to world class surfing at witches rock & ollies point & other discreet spots are also available.

We also took the Brindisi 15 pass van to Buena Vista one day for exciting Zip Lining ( 7 zipline tour & the best in the country) horseback riding, toboggan waterslide, treecanopy tour & the thermal hot springs ( sauna/mud bath/multiple pool springs). I highly recommend this all day excursion with a hot spring finish.

The brand new Dive Center is conveniently located en route to the marina with a activity/dive/fish briefing center, morning coffee, beautiful bathrooms/showers, Ice/refrigeration, ample secure parking & air conditioned areas. Outdoor shaded seating has fans throughout.

Brindisi Group also provides airport transfers & excursions in a modern 15 pass van for travel throughout the country & it’s variety of things to do.

Few tour operators if any provide such diversity & complete tour offers as the Brindisi group & I would highly recommend using their services.

One of my worst sport fishing trip. It started with the fact that we were not picked up on time. 1/2 h too late. When we got on the boat it was still refueled with canisters. The fishing equipment was very poor and totally outdated. When the first fish, a Mahi Mahi came to the bait, the fishing line broke after 30 seconds. The bait were ancient and have been thawed several times and frozen again. The only good thing, the crew was very accommodating, nice and helpful. The sandwiches were disgusting and only so smeared with mustard. The drinks were sufficient. Instead of the whole day we are already reversed after 5 hours because only one engine of two ran and the Kaptain wanted to visit the harbor Flamingo for the sake of safety. A refund of a partial amount from the unreasonable and unfriendly owner of the $ 1400 was not granted to us. I can not recommend this company at all.

I am an avid fisherman and was on a family vacation and decided to go on a fishing trip with Brindisi. When they picked us up the boats were great and the mate rigged and set up all of the lines. We were on a half day trip and the mate didn't change out the baits that we were dragging one time! We caught one fish which we dragged for about five minutes because the mate was relaxing up on the fly bridge and didn't see the planer pop out of the water. After this he sent the line back out and did not set the planer underwater and left it that way for the rest of the trip. There were fish boiling all over the place and they were choosing to blind troll. Please do yourself a favor and find another fishing charter company in the area before choosing to overpay and go with Brindisi.
