Accessible by 4 x4 vehicle, and a short walk from the parking you have an amazing white sand beach with crystal waters and wonderful trees for shade. Big waves, but swimmable.

A short drive north of Samara on the back road towards Nosara revealed this beautiful white sand beach. The surf is stronger than Samara beach. Pack a cooler and a beach blanket.

This is a stunning beach with beautiful almost white fine sand and turquoise blue and emerald green waters and great rock formation at either end of the beach that have fantastic tidal pools. The one pool was like looking at a life-size aquarium and we were able to float around and swim in them. Rugged shoreline with a bit of shade in the parking area. Waves are enormous and local will warn you that is can be dangerous. We rented bikes for $7 US for half a day. Good old beach bikes- mountain bikes were very scarce. Took us about 35 min from Downtown Samara to ride. Took the shorter route- turn left at Finca Minoy and follow dirt road through a shallow river (at least in January) and stay on road and go past Mini Super Y and keep going until you get sign that says playa barigonna. There is a parking lot and in the lot there is a guy selling fresh pineapple and watermelon and probably drinks. Bring lots of water/liquid. None at beach but Mini super Y has nice cold drinks.

Very strong rip currents. Young man taken by the current is aiming for help, but nobody knows what to do about it. After a long time, one experienced surfer finally tries to rescue him, and another surfer tries as well. Police and ambulances arrive, they are all completely helpless, without any equipment or training for this type of incidents. Luckily, the surfers have now reached the drowning person, and for a while we could all relax. But the current is strong, and now all the three of them are heading towards sharp cliffs. Eventually, the current changed direction, and they were again on track. The young man was taken to hospital, and the two rescuers got and applause from us. Very close call

We went there early Nov just after some heavy rain so the road was even with a 4x4 quite adventurous (deep river crossing) and bumpy (many holes) but It was well worth it! Super soft, white sand beach with coconut trees at the north end giving plenty of shadow. Watching the many hermit crabs wonder around was great fun too! Perfect surf spot on high tide. No amenities.
