Some reviews for this place are mixed up for Osa Wildlife Sanctuary. Golfito Wildlife Refuge is a protected area managed by SINAC- MINAE. I recommend this place for birdwatchers and travelers wanting an easy hike in secondary and primary rainforest. Trails are well maintained and is easy to access from Golfito town.
NO animals are kept in captivity here. Therefore, if you really want to experience nature, come here instead to the wrong-called "Sanctuary" where wildlife management is shown at its worst.

Carol cares for her animals like no one else can. She is dedicated and passionate. Her eccentricity is also her gift. Hands-on experience packed with fascinating information in tours personally conducted by her.

This park is really close to the center of Golfito town.
When we arrive, it was a very nice surprise to see so many monkeys on the trees canopy, we did a very nice trail that crossed some streams and there is a beautifull waterfall, we see some lizards and butterflies and frogs and birds, was a very nice walk, I recomend

There is something about finding a destination that most people could never find. The Refuge is a 30 minute boat ride out of Golfito. And the beauty on the way there and back is outstanding.
Carol's passion for the animals is contagious for everyone on the excursion. Her knowledge of the animals' behavior seems even greater than the zoology. And it's easy to see that the animals understand her behavior too. It is great to see so many animals cared for so well.

This is not ready for prime time. It appeared that the trails were cleared a day or two before. No animals, no birds and very hot and humid. I think it has some promise, but not yet. Not even hummingbirds.

Beautiful from the air. The Golfo is clear and beautiful, one of only three tropical fjords in the world, with Corcovado National Park on one side and Piedras Blancas on the other. Both are spectacular parks, well protected and full of wild life.

Be ready to walk several miles. But wildlife is super. Dress cool. Shorts + light shirt. Bring the camera. Hiking shoes best, not flip-flops.

One of the prettiest places I have been in my entire life. I would honestly have my ashes spread here after death if that was an option-- it leaves THAT kind of impression on you. What more can you say?

There were two parts to our walk with our guide one to a waterfall and a shorter circular walk. It was a hot day but it was good to be mainly under the tree canopy. We saw a variety of wildlife and heard lots more! It was a good place for photography. The only problem was there were quite a few people off a cruise ship doing the same walk but enjoyed though. Terrain not too taxing and stayed on well trodden paths.

Hi there, I cannot for the life of me find the entry to the park. I have looked at many sites online, and also google maps. I was taken to a place where there wasn't so much as a foot path in sight. Any help would be appreciated! (We have a rental car)

How did you get to the Golfito National Wildlife Refuge? We will be arriving in Golfito on a cruise ship, but would like to make our own way there rather than going with a ship group.

Hello Barry, did you pre-book a tour to the park? Or did you book it when you disembarked? Can you take a bus or taxi from Golfito to get there? We have a cruise stop in Golfito in Jan, and would like to go to the Refuge, just wondering how to go about arranging it. Thanks, Penny

How did you book your shore excursion, thru the cruise ship or another way? If another way, what is the name of the company and a web site or phone number to contact them. Thanx

Hi Casey!
We'll be arriving by cruise ship on Dec. 1. I'm interested in a small group tour with you. I can probably get a few more people to join us. We'd like an easy hike and want to see as many animals as possible. Please let me know what options we have.

How do we get here by public transport please as we don't want to use a cruise excursion. Also what is the best time to arrive? Thank you

We're arriving by cruise boat in February & want to visit the National wildlife refuge in Golfito, without using a cruise excursion. How do we get there by public transport please and what is the best time of day to visit as we have a day in port, arriving the previous evening?
