Left me underwhelmed! You can hike all the trails in 2-3 hours. We saw the quetzal :-) but only the female without the plumage :-( Get a guide when you go else it's $17 / person of walking through scenery that's common in Costa Rica!

This is a beautiful cloud forest with easy hikes. Go early in the morning to see wildlife, and during the rainy season to avoid crowds. So glad we went with a guide who pointed out various plants and animals. We were able to see two...More

Staying in Monteverde, this is one thing you have to do! It's relaxing and a good way to get in touch with nature. We decided to take the long path which took us about 3 to 4 hours, walking at a decent speed. Some parts...More

We had a great day with Kevin as our guide. We would have missed so much if we had done the tour on our own. Definitely have a guide for this tour. Try to get Kevin if you can.

The Cloud Forest is the main reason for people traveling to Monteverde. You can do a night walking tour where the guide points out the animals by torchlight. I did the day time tour. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is a private non-profit reserve administered...More

I wanted to go here as I'd heard about it before travelling to Costa Rica. The walkways are rusting, patched up and wobbly. I conquered my fear of heights to see the fantastic views. Sadly very few animals live in this part of the forest...More

This reserve is packed with so much flora and fauna that you really need to take the time to look for the small things - hummingbirds buzzing past, tiny caterpillars on the trail, orange and black tarantulas and a whole host of other clever nature...More

Yes, it's a cloud forest, but it rains here too. We toured the forest with a guide (recommended), who points out the names of wildlife, plants, etc. Although it rained the best part of the tour, it was still fascinating to see how nature is...More

Hi, I am driving from Arenal to Monteverde to see the cloud forest and expect to arrive by 1 pm. How does one do the hanging bridges? Is it included in the entrance ticket or I have to get a separate tour? I didn;t see it listed on the center website. Also, any recommendations on close-by hotels to crash for the night since I will be heading to San Jose on Sunday afternoon.

Buy the tickets at the top...for what parts you want to do...about 4 hours to do bridges, hummingbirds etc
Do you remember what tour you booked? I don't need an "adventure" and only brought my Skechers to wear. What do you recommend. Am also a healthy and agile 70 year old. Thank you...........Sonya

Greetings! Do self-guided hikes require a reservation, or can you simply arrive and purchase admission? Planning to visit Thursday, April 27th. Thanks!

You are coming during high tourist season and that means crowds. So, if you want to go on your own there's no problem with that but keep in mind that if you do not arrive within the first 100 visitors you may have to stay... More
