I've visited Montezuma at least once each year since 1994. While I'm there I try to go to Playa Grande in Romelia every single day. Even if I'm doing something else wonderful, I have to get over my feelings about missing a day at Playa Grande. Bring water, something to snack on, a hammock, your boogie board if you have... More

I booked a month of Volunteering in Romelia. At first I didn´t know what to expect. It turned out to be the best month of my life so far. Working on a lonely beach in a super relaxed atmosphere, taking care of baby turtles. If you want to calm down and find your inner peace, this is the place for... More

Playa Grande is a must if you are visiting Montezuma, about a 20 minute walk via the beach, you will walk past 2 wildlife refuge ( NIcholas wessberg and I forgot the other name) the beaches maybe a little polluted by the trash washed on shore by the tide but the place is great

What an amazing time I spent volunteering at Romelia during four weeks in oct/nov... Thank you all for this special and unique experience!! Living a simple life in a rustic wooden house in the middle of a great nature and wildlife, being surrounded by the sounds of the jungle and the sea all day long, this was just marvellous! I... Myself, my brother, and two friends only spent one week volunteering at the Romelia refuge, but it was enough to completely fall in love with the place. The work was meaningful and fun, the staff was amazing, and everyone we met there really made us feel welcome. It's impossible to describe how amazing it is to live surrounded by incredible... More

Although I was working as a volunteer in another conservation project in CR (in Ojochal), during my days off I went to Romelia to volunteer for 5 days. It has been a wonderful experience: doing something that you know does matter and does make a difference!!! Moreover, the people working there are amazing, it felt like having another family. Also,... More

I volunteered in the Refugio Romelia from November 2013 till January 2014. It was amazing being able to help in the turtle project, but also working in the vineyard maked my stay unforgettable. You live close to nature and see new animals every day: butterflies, monkeys, birds, insects, etc. I'm definitely going back one day to enjoy the pure and... More

I had the opportunity of volunteering at Romelia last turtle season and can't stay away. I got so much experience in measuring and tagging turtles, patrolling the beaches, relocating nests, and releasing hatchlings. It was an amazing experience to connect with nature, be surrounded by birds and monkeys, and learn to live a more simplified life. Working with sea turtle... More

When I first came to Romelia, I had booked only two weeks. At the end I spent six wonderful weeks there and it would have become more, if I had disposed of more time. I loved just everyting about it. Thanks to the wonderful people working in the refuge, it took maybe ten minutes to make me feel at home.... More
