Ave Azul de Osa is a sanctuary in the Osa Corcovado peninsula, a magical and special place for me as well as its owner Patrick, an incredible person with a lot of experience in the area and its unique birds. I think of Costa Rica, so I recommend visiting Ave Azul de Osa. Whenever they visit the peninsula and Puerto Jimenez and its surroundings and meet this incredible person Patrick who is a legend for me and his knowledge that he emits and also his charisma as well as I learn a lot every time I visit him so if you go visit this magical place Regards. Thanks Patrick for everything and a nice experience.

Patrick is full of knowledge about the animals and birds of Costa Rica and elsewhere. The visit is absolutely worth the drive up to the Carate area if you’re on the Osa Penninsula. We have been twice and each time, we’ve come away with a richer understanding of this special ecosystem and if the birds flora and fauna in the region. The experience is laid back and lovely.

Patrick is a wealth of knowledge about the region and his museum is worth a stop. I made the trip specifically to see his operation and I wasn’t disappointed

A very interesting drive in to enjoy an afternoon on the porch drinking iced tea and chatting with Patrick and some of his birds. He is an incredibly knowledgeable person on flora, fauna and the history of the area. He shared his amazing collection of artifacts...things he has collected over years of working around the world in zoos and nature! Could have listened to even more of his stories but needed to carry on to see Carate!

Patrick is a wonderful host. His place is very beautiful. Plan on spending a whole day: you can get so much information! The museum is wonderful. This place is a must-see for anybody who loves beauty and nature. I saw coatimundi, all kinds of insects that would amaze including blue morpho butterflies and two types of monkeys

A group of friends and I visited Ave Azul recently and had a very nice time with Patrick, the proprietor of the Ave Azul. We were able to meet some beautiful, big parrots who were quite amiable. Some of the birds onsite were breeding pairs that could not be disturbed, but we could see them from a distance. There is a small, but packed natural museum inside, featuring everything from giant eggs, to butterflies and ancient pottery shards found in the jungle nearby. The road to get there was rough, so hopefully you have 4 wheel drive! ( But that's classic Costa Rica.)

We spent several hours with Patrick, and could easily have spent the whole day! Our group included 3 kids under age 12, and they were endlessly fascinated by all the incredible artifacts and animals (it's such a broad collection, and so thoughtfully displayed). It was a highlight of our trip to see the birds up close. So much work and care has gone into this sanctuary. We learned a lot (Patrick seems to have an endless wealth of knowledge), and would definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area!

We spent a very interesting and instructive morning here. The ranch, which was mostly built by the owner himself, is located in the middle of the jungle. Patrick lovingly cares for his birds, which include abandoned and rescued animals. He is happy to share his expert knowledge, including about the flora and fauna of the area, and talks about his eventful life. The museum is also very worth seeing. If you want you can also stay overnight, from here several hiking trails start.

wonderful and special place. great place for a day hike or a relaxing bird experience on the shady porch with iced tea and an extensive collection of animal artifacts. Patrick is extremely knowledgeable and will happily tell you about every bird, bug, critter, tree, flower, fruit, and history of the region and conservation in general.
