The park has a level, paved footpath making it easily accessible for people of all abilities. The trail makes one big loop and has some informative signs along the way. There are restrooms near the parking lot and also about halfway along the trail. I highly recommend hiring a guide to help you spot and identify all the birds, plants... More

Lovely reseve, friendly and helpful. Particularly liked explanation boards explaining about transitional zones forest suitable for both dry and wet zone plants and animals. The plants heights, the shapes, the shape of roots like mangroves, make this a place to spend many hours and take lots of photos. The fact that is off the beaten track make it a pleasure... More

Following a trail in the rainforest with a ranger was an exciting adventure - we were treated to views of many birds, an anteater high up in the canopy in a huge Guanacaste tree, a dozing Howler Monkey, a Coati loping along not far from the trail, and a number of other exotic mammals and birds, some of which we... We walked around in Carara for a few hours on our last day in Costa Rica, and got there at the worst time of day for birding. Nonetheless, our guide had an eye for the small, easily missed birds that were still moving about. We had a wonderful time with our guide, discovering new birds, plants, and bugs. We got... More

Great 1/2 day walk to see Macaws and experience the rainforest. Close to the Central Valley, easy drive. Hire a guide- it makes all the difference!

We spend 2 hours in the park - pathways are well prepared, and saw quite a lot of animals, amongst them a little Viper...

A good hiking tour for the family. Kids had a good time. We went off season donut was very muddy and buggy. Bring insect repellent. There were no guides available so we did a self guided tour. The plaques were well written and very helpful. The kids really enjoyed the leaf-cutter Ants. The highways of ants carrying leaves was astounding.

I learned at Ficus Trails, Monteverde Cloud Forest, that 3% of the world is a Rainforest and 2% a cloud forest. Carara is a rainforest so it will be hot and humid. The Sacarlet Macaws are magnificent birds and, like the rainforest and the cloudforest, highly endangered. Traveling during the wet season could be a problem because some of the trails... More

We went on a day trip from Tambor to Carara to go on a guided tour to observe wildlife. I would definitely recommend a tour guide with their trained eyes they will point out all kinds of wildlife such as Macaws, Crabs, Herond's, Monkeys, Birds, Anteaters, Lizards and many more animals native to Costa Rica!
