Beautiful Paradise

A truly beautiful beach. Nice swimming, quiet & uncrowded. Spectacular west coast sunsets. A laid back lil town with your basic needs, a few stores & eateries.

We have spent days on this beach and have enjoyed mornings and sunsets so much to do there - the homemade ceviche' is fabulous and the sunsets at the lounge on the beach is great

This beach seems to go on for miles and you see maybe 3-5 people at any given time. The most I saw was 15, but it was sunset and a public access spot. Crabs are plentiful making their homes in the sand along with sand dollars and little shells, and their host, holding on tight with every wave. There is... More

This area is a little out of the way and very laid back. Not a lot going on besides the beach so I recommend having a car there unless you want to just relax at the beach. There are 3-4 places to eat and drink. Many places to stay in the area, not that expensive. Loki at the Rafiki Beach... More

Beautiful remote location with lush tropics in January. The ocean and sunsets are spectacular and the water (very) warm! This is a very quiet beach town and perfect for an escape. If looking to socialize or nightlife, you'll want to plan elsewhere. Though the locals and resort owners very accommodating. Rent a car if looking to explore.

I had an extra day in Liberia and wanted something outdoors and not expensive. At first I couldn't find public transportation info online but a tico friend assured me I would find a bus. I speak Spanish so asking for info and help is a but easier. From the main bus terminal in Liberia (not Pulmitan) ask for the bus... More

I enjoyed Playa Matapalo a lot. It's a nice salt and pepper beach. The trees and area around it are scenic and nice. It's not very crowded which is good. We took some great sunset pictures from the beach.

This beach is very quiet, very peaceful and off the beaten path. Away from the busier tourist beaches, such as Playa Espadilla and Biesanz, this beach is great if you want to get away from everything. Great little restaurant close by that serves up the best food I have ever had but the name escapes me at the moment...Great waves... More
