Galerie 'Umatatea is located on the Motu of Maeva, about 800 meters after

the bridge, across from the Pension Delord/Camping Vana'a.

Melanie works in a variety of mediums--primarily oils on canvas, framed

in tropical woods hand carved by a Marquesian sculptor. Her

paintings are imbued with the saturated light and colours of Polynesia, and

a heartfelt tenderness for the everyday objects, anecdotal attitudes and

expressions of the Polynesians. Limited Edition prints available.

We were lucky enough to spend quite some time with Melanie having a great look around the Galerie which is full of the most amazing paintings. Melanie is extremely talented and the art is varied and amazing for just one artist. You do have to visit and take your time - even enjoy a lovely cool ice cream to cool... More

Although we had heard about Melanie's gallery from our guide book, we stumbled here while driving from the nearby marae to the beach at the old Sofitel site. Melanie's art is truly inspiring as she has definitely captured Huahine and Tahitian life during her 17+ years of living in French Polynesia. Her gallery is both a working atelier and a... More

Melanie's art is just beautiful. She captures the faces of the Polynesians perfectly and it was an absolute pleasure talking to her

One of my all time favourite afternoon ride is to Maeva, pass the little town, left on to the bridge and right towards the old Sofitel Hotel ruins.. Stop for ice cream at Galerie Umatatea and check out Melanie's latest paintings, they are stunning and if you , like myself can't afford an original the prints are very reasonable and... More

Really lovely original artwork by Melanie. She was very welcoming and discussed her artwork, her muse and her background. Added bonus--she had made ice cream sandwiches for purchase ! : )

I have so many of Melanie's wrt works that I pray I don't fall in love with more as the wall space is gone. She looks at the islands with artist's eyes. You have seen the same things, but voila! Melanie has translated the view into something magnificent. She captures the spirit and the love of the islands. Don't go... More

Amazing artwork that opens a window into the daily lives, sights and colors of this wonderful corner of the world. The only problem: hard to choose amongst all these wonderful paintings, I wished I had a lot more wall space. Hoping to return soon to see the latest paintings that Melanie brings to life.

Spiritual, fun and talented....that is Melanie! Her litle "Local Style Gallery" on Maeva Motu, surounded by palm trees, open to the trade winds... where you can also enjoy in her company a fresh smoothie.... is a must not to miss on Huahine Island. You will feel at home to discover her beautifull art... Aurélia
