The Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center is a partnership between the US Fish and Wildlife Service's Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge and the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve. Built in 2003 as a resource for the community and visitors to Homer, Alaska, the building houses interpretive and interactive exhibits and displays describing the important work and research of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge and the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve.Located at 95 Sterling Highway, there are opportunities to enjoy the exhibit hall, informative videos, regular educational programming, and Ranger/Naturalist-led walks and presentations.The Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center is your window to the largest seabird refuge in the world, with all of the natural wonders of Kachemak Bay right outside its doors!

A fantastic place to visit! Very informative and lots of information available! The trail out back was absolutely amazing! Saw many different birds, some just migrating through. Views were incredible!

Very good, easily manageable Visitors Center. The movie was quite good. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. The trail to Bishops Beach begins right there. Don't miss this VC!

Exhibits were interesting which related to the history of Alaska. They showed a good film, too. Gift shop,was reasonably priced, too. Another plus is that admission was free--what a treat!!

A little information about the area. Free, which is always good. Nice walking trails. A short film about a research boat that studies wildlife.

Free admission other than a donation - very interesting - well presented for any age - very good short video - lots to see and enjoy - Well worth a trip or visit if in the area !

Stop in and check out the museum. Lots to see and learn from about the town. Also a little gift shop with lots to choose from. I enjoyed this place. You can even go out back and do a short little hike if you like....More
