Our family had a wonderful experience with Sean. He was both personable and knowledgeable, taking us to the best spots on the river (all of which are beautiful). 9 hours on the water flew by quickly in his presence, and the next time we find ourselves there we look forward to booking with him again!

Kenai River Recon was an excellent guided trip. Sean was super friendly and helpful, communicating frequently with us before our trip. He was full of information to help us prepare and was super patient with our limited knowledge on salmon fishing and the area. We did a one day guided fishing trip for sockeye salmon. During the day, Sean taught my husband, my son, and me how to properly fish for sockeye. It was a super fun and successful day. We finished up with our full limit and after processing, had about 68 pounds of salmon to take home! Shout out to Sean's mom for the chocolate chip cookies. They may not be included with each trip, but they were nice to have with a cup of coffee during a break from fishing! We will definitely use Sean as our guide again and highly recommend him for your next fishing trip! Great job - thanks Sean!!

Shawn is a good man and trustworthy. He does what he says and says what he does. He put me over fish everyday and the rest was up to me. He took my son and I on the Kenai and Kasilof river in July 2019 and everyday we caught all the sockeye the law would allow. I like the sockeye because they are awesome to eat and not endangered. Most importantly he knew the beautiful areas of the river and I found a great place to sip my scotch. I was a novice salmon fisherman but he was very helpful in instructing me to be a better fisherman and therefore I was successful. He made sure I was in a safe place as I am not a good swimmer. He had really nice expensive fishrods and boat. He was always kind and helpful. But when I asked him to challenge me he did. I encourage you to travel from anchorage to the Kenai as my son and I did. It was a beautiful drive down the scenic byway through the snow capped mountains and meadows covered with purple flowers. I am going again next year with Shawn for three days in July. He has a drift boat which is nice because he rows you down the river and it is the most peaceful place I found in Alaska. He has a motor on his drift boat so when you need to get someplace quick yo can. I like that he rowed because there was no noisy motor running all day. Shawn is a beast and can really row!!! Shawn, I want to thank you for a great memory on the Kenai and Kesolof with my son. I also want to thank you for your service to our country. May the good lord be with you. Respectfully yours, John Miller, RN Maryland State Health Inspector

My dad, brother and I hired Sean for a half day salmon fishing trip and it exceeded our expectations. Sean was responsive with my questions and very helpful ahead of the trip. On our trip he was very knowledgeable about the river, the wildlife and the fish. During our half day trip we each managed to catch a fish (or two!) and ended up taking home several! Sean was a great coach, very patient and it felt like we were fishing with a friend. We would love to come back and fish with Sean again!

My father and I are from rural Maine and have never used a guide before Sean. We actually booked the trip with someone else, but luckily got contracted out to Sean Smart at Kenai River Recon because they didn’t have any availability on the day we were looking for. We have never needed a guide before, but with this more than likely being my fathers only trip to Alaska, I figured we’d better get a guide. Sean was great, he didn’t really treat us like “customers” or “sports” (which is what I was mostly worried about) but he treated us like friends, and It felt like we were just fishing buddies. He was very knowledgeable about the river (middle Kenai) and the fish there. He had some good spots he brought us to that other fisherman flew right by and it really paid off. When we hit a good run, he would motor back up once in a while and we would hit it again. I can’t tell you how thankful I was to end up with Sean on my first guided experience, as I have heard a lot of nightmares about the experiences other people have had with guides. I was mostly concerned about my father, as he is a backwoods Maine guy, who doesn’t really travel and has spent his whole life in the woods, hunting, fishing, and trapping. He can be grumpy at times and not super friendly with people that come off arrogant or all knowing. Luckily, Sean has a great demeanor and struck the right balance with my father on trying to guide him on what to do and treating him with respect. I really liked Sean and would definitely use him again, like I said, I felt like I was just going fishing with a buddy, rather than a guide, but the biggest thing was that my father really liked him, and my father is a hard man to win over... Sean was so great I almost forgot to mention the fish...my God in heaven...is there fish in the Kenai...I still can’t believe how many fish we caught that day...we did a full day with Sean, can’t remember exactly how many hours it was, but I can tell you, we caught Dolly Varden, Silver Salmon (Coho), Pink Salmon (Humpies), a couple Sockeye (Reds), a couple Chum Salmon, and Rainbow Trout. If I had to take a guess, we probably caught like...25-35 fish each, (Sean can correct me if i’m exaggerating) anywhere from 2-12ish pounds I think. Great trip! I plan on getting back up there with my brothers sometime and hooking up with Sean again. Like I said, I was really nervous and scared I was going to book a bad guide that treated us like tourists, but luckily ended up with Sean Smart at Kenai River Recon and am so thankful for how everything worked out. Would definitely recommend! So if you’re on the fence on who to hire and where to go, don’t worry too much about it! Just call Sean and he’ll let you know what’s good at the time and get you into fish! I am a real person who does a lot of hunting and fishing in Maine, and feel like I can rest easy in hiring Sean again in the future. I attached a few of the photos from our trip with Sean as well!

There is noting like catching your limit of salmon then having the whole day to trout fish!! You guys were a blast. Your numbers may be high but whose counting anyway :). Great people, nice fish and meat in the freezer. I felt like I had already fished with you guys before. Nice to hear you felt so welcome on my boat. My goal is always to treat folks the way I'd like to be treated if I were on a guided trip. Its all about having fun and being safe, catching nice fish and your limit is the bonus but we are pretty spoiled up here at times. Thanks again Matt! Sean
