Very interesting

A short but interesting history of the hotel and the notable events that it has played a part in over the past 100 years.

I did not expect to see this type of beautiful architecture, very well maintained. It is really cool. To see this kind of European style on such a grand scale gives one a new perspective of this city.

A surprisingly enjoyable museum in the basement of this historic hotel which gives you rich accounts of the emergence of Tianjin and the hotel from the 19th century to present day. I also enjoyed a lovely buffet lunch in the hotel.

This wasn't a huge hall of exhibitions but instead it was located on the basement of the hotel. Exhibition area wasn't tiny though. It is a must place to visit if you are interested in history of China during the last.... let's say.... 200 years. Very educational. Nicely decorated. Almost all of them were displayed in conventional English. Not cheap... More

What a fascinating little museum in the basement of the Hotel. 150 years of history is covered extremely well and is well worth the visit. Afternoon tea for 2 is very pleasant and at only 98rmb makes for a nice visit to this lovely venue.

It is really nice to see this old hotel, and check the ability to transform in a new hotel by Chinese. The museum in the basement is unmissed to know the history of the hotel and Tianjin. Enjoy!

Lovely Setting for the hotel with the Haihe River one side and square with gardens the other. Beautiful atrium for afternoon tea, with a Chinese slant on the traditional! Museum is fascinating and you can just walk in and ask to go round for a modest fee if the hotel is not too busy. We also had cocktails in the... More

The hotel is historical (150 years old) but is well maintained. It was located in the English zone of Tianjin in the past ad many other attractive buildings around. It is worth visitng and have a drink or meal there which is reasonable in prize. Why not staying there as well to really feel its charm?

We read some interesting reviews so we went for a short walk from our hotel to check out the Astor. We had hopped to see the museum, but since one needed to eat at the hotel and we'd just had a huge breakfast we just looked around. The original entrance is something right out of a Victorian novel. We spent... More

I knew nothing about the history of Tianjin but had read on Wikopedia that the city had an Astor Hotel. Taking the bullet train from Beijing for a day trip, we got hot and exhausted by all the city had to offer. I suggested that we visit the Astor for a relaxing lunch and bit of lobby respite. We walked... More
