This place is fantastic! There is pottery everywhere and you really get a sense of what it would have been like to live there. A few things have been rebuilt slightly giving an example of shape which I was a little uneasy about but on the whole a brilliant site. I love the fact that there are tortoises roaming everywhere!

The Kaunians themselves said to originate from Crete, created a city on top of the heights between the 4th & 6th Century BC (depending on who is giving the guided tour!). There have been archaeological digs which have discovered Greek pottery on the site dating back to the 9th Century BC! Whilst I believe this to be mythology, it is... More

What's great about Kaunos is that a visitor can wander all over the site and tread along the path of ancient history. From the once thriving harbour area up to the amphitheater and even higher to the citadel it's simply amazing. There are beautiful views of the river delta and beyond from the ruins. There is also plenty of wildlife... More

We visit Dalyan every year, but I have never had to opportunity to visit Kaunos. I had read a lot about it and had seen it when sailing past it on the river. Seeing it first hand was wonderful. It is well preserved and the information provided at each location is excellent. I will certainly go back to explore more... More

Kaunos is an easy 1k uphill walk from the boat drop off. It's quite large and 100% not for the health and safety freaks, those who value not treading all over history and anyone who can't walk around very well! The amphitheatre is by far the best part with some pretty epic views. It's just a bit odd that it's... More

Kaunos is not far off the beaten track but once you get there, you'll spend ages looking at the monuments. So carry some water and maybe a sandwich. Its absolutely fabulous - a must visit if your in the area.

We had a brilliant time although it was a very hot day with little shelter. Best done on a cooler day.

We visited this site as we are all interested in the history of the area and were not disappointed by what we found. The amphitheatre is remarkably well preserved and really works as we could hear the speech of some other visitors who were standing at the "stage" area from the top of the tiered seating stones! The goats walking... More

We visit Kaunos every time we go to Dalyan- early in the day before it gets too hot. It is an on-going restoration project with a fascinating history and well worth a visit .You get a small rowing boat from the harbour and can enjoy breakfast in the small café- the pancakes are beautiful. Then a short walk to Kaunos... More
