Another great place to spend a morning. There are crafts, fashion, food and the unique vibe of different cultures and people. There's great music, unique fashion items and crafts. Go early if you want to avoid the crowds and take time to stroll through all the different stalls before you decide what you want to eat. Most of the stalls... More

Hubby and I recently visited Market on Main in the Maboneng Precinct (in the heart of Jhb's CBD). We were pleasantly surprised. The area is quite safe with plenty visible policing, provided you go at the right time (i.e. when the market is active) and provided you stick to the streets immediately surrounding the market (i.e. don't venture down a... The whole area (Maponeng District) has eclectic little shops and pubs that are worth investigating. I have not done them all, as yet. The Market on Main is housed in an old mill house, downstairs is the food area and upstairs the arts and crafts. The food fare on offer is superb and of such a variety that all tastes... More

Its a must visity for anyone visiting Johannesburg, its a different flavour away from the sandton anglo-saxon no man clature. Nice crowds, great food and vibe, i think this is a great idea, gautrain bus management still hasnt decided to allocate maboneng with a bus or integrate it into existing routes.

I had wanted to go to the food market for a while but had been put off by the location. How wring I was. We got there early at about 11.00 am for Sunday brunch and were able to find safe parking within easy walking distance of the food market. Not wanting to rush matters we did a walk about... More

Little jewel in a place you'd likely never visit. Cool art and funky trinkets. Had a nice time here after brunch at The Living Room which is just around the corner. Nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon

The best Sundaymeal ever, should you prefer a large variety of artisan foods, not only lovely to look at but delicious to enjoy! The vibe is a combination between african and cosmopolitan and the sounds of european languages intermingle with the traditional tongues to form a warm and friendly atmosphere. Excellent wines as well as craft beers of high quality... More

This food market would be at home in any major world city. Its offerings are diverse and seems to be the place for locals to go on the weekend. We walked there from our downtown hotel, and the walk a little bit rough. It seemed like most people had driven/taxied there. The neighborhood around it is still up and coming,... More

That whole area has been regenerated and has become a cool place to be. The market is always vibey, a decent variety of food and other things, sometimes gets bit cramped because it's indoors and the stalls are quite close to one another, but definitely worth a visit and then taking a walk around that entire Maboneng precinct.
