My photographic club arranged an early morning visit to the dam so that we could take pictures as the sun came up. We arrived at around 06H00 and although it was early there were lots of people around enjoying the early morning fresh air. Some were running, others on bikes, walking dogs and pushing babies in prams and lots of... More

The Botanical Gardens, which include the popular Emmarentia Dam, are among the city's loveliest and botanically diverse public spaces. Popular with joggers and picnickers, the gardens also provide the perfect photographic backdrop for newly-weds.

The gardens are open to the public from sunrise to sunset and entrance is free. There is a little for everyone here, lovely gardens to walk through, cycle or run or just find a quiet place to sit. Feed the ducks at the dam or take a blanket and a good book. There are sections where they allow you to... More

The Johannesburg Botanical gardens is open to the public and offers beautiful views and amenities to walk (with/without dogs), cycle or run. It gets busy over weekends so go early and enjoy the scenery and environment. Entrance is free and there are car guards at the parking areas, so take some cash to tip them when you leave. Take water,... More

Absolutely love this park! We bring our dogs almost every week... they run and play and swim in the dams/ ponds! Park is immaculately manicured and extremely clean and neat! Would recommend to any nature or animal lovers... picnics are popular here as well!

My grand-nephew had his 2nd birthday party on the field overlooking the dam. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the botanical gardens are reasonably well-kept. I was also surprised to find dog walkers, cyclists, students, joggers, lovers and nuns making good use of the park. The nuns racing each other with habits flowing behind made my day. My puppy... I went to the Botanical gardens for the first time in about 20 years last week and I was so impressed with the standards. The gardens are magnificent, spotlessly clean and surrounded by gorgeous emmarentia dam and park which are both a delight.
