A fun filled guided tour through an interactive multi-media museum, exploring the rich history of beer and its South African story. End off with a cold pint in the Tap Room overlooking the city.

The immersive tour explores the rich history of Africa's beer culture, transporting you from the tombs of Egypt to the mining townships of Johannesburg's pioneer days. You'll also get to taste traditional African beer, hold hop flowers in your hands, smell the different types of barley and peer into the great big wort kettle!

Beer memorabilia and merchandise are also available at the adjoining shop, Tankards and Togs.

Since being opened by former President Nelson Mandela nearly 20 years ago, the World of Beer has become one of the country's top attractions for foreigners and locals alike, winning SA Tourism's "Tourist Attraction Category Winner" for three consecutive years.

It also houses a five-star conference and event venue.

Visit experience it for yourself!

SA World of Beer worthwhile a visit. You pay an entrance fee, but get vouchers, which you redeem by the end of the tour for a cold drink or a ice cold South African beer. The tour itself is guided by knowledgeable guides and takes about two hours. You learn about the history of beer making right up today's modern... More

We held a great goal setting session for the team away from the office and it was great. An unusual view over the city of Johannesburg, some good food and a nice constructive environment for people to think. And a cold beer afterwards. If you have never done a beer tour, it is highly recommended.

It was a regular Tuesday midday, the SAB tour was only in 2 hours, it seemed that the place didn't have anybody, even for the gift shop, all quite, didn't give a good impression. Even to go up and have lunch and drink a beer, we would have to pay entrance.

It's open every day of the week. You enter in at the bottom of the building and pay at the reception desk. The bar is upstairs.

You can have the tour or the tour and tasting. The tour is nice, but quite long (1:30h) and some stops are not that interesting... I would say that it could be reviewed to be more focused and straight to the point. The tasting however was quite good: good explanations on 6 different types of beers. After that, you can... More

This is the build up before the rugby game. We went as a group and had a meal and snacks before going to the game. The ambiance of the place is old world. We had snacks, and a guest speaker, with enough to drink. Later in the day we had a full meal and dessert. Overall a good experience. SAB... More

Loved it!!! Visited on the 11th of April. I have to say, I'm not a beer drinker at all but the tour was AMAZING. The guide was fun and she was friendly. She should be given a raise for conducting such fun amd informative tours. Love the free Castle glasses as souvenirs. The beer tasting session was great. I learned... More

Love beer or not, this is definitely one for you things-to-do while in Johannesburg. This 1-1/2 to 2hr tour guides through the history of beer, both globally and in South Africa, with the second part of the tour dedicated to the beer brewing process. The tour is essentially driven by lots of visual aids, with short commentary from the guide.... More
