This is one of SA's major universities. They have a decent restaurant on site and nice grounds to walk, A bit of student unrest of late does not make it the safest place to go.

The history of the university was very interesting. When one walks around you can see damage done by students during the riots last year. Such a shame that they dont appreciate the history and take pride in the school they attend which has an international...More

There are many historic buildings with a rich history but unfortunately with the recent student protests a lot of the buildings were damaged and vandalised. Stay clear for now as it may be dangerous.

Origins centre is all about origins of humankind and is interactive with exhibits. Knowledge of SAN tribe of South Africa. Dinosaur exhibits are also excellent. A good place for family outing and knowing the history of where it all began... Planetarium - shows are exhibited...More

During a geology conference we were able to meet some of the outstanding professors and scholars from Witwatersrand University. The University has a few campuses and it is lovingly called the Wits. The main campus is in the central Johannesburg.

I have used their research libraries for work and can honestly say that Wits has a beautiful campus - try the clubhouse for a delicious snack while there - but more specifically, they have fantastic libraries and good staff. Oh, and apparently the Origins Centre...More

Yes there is a cafeteria on site. It deoends what time you are going to visit?. If it is during the holidays it won't be open. Public transport is not your best bet if it's your first time in South Africa. It depends where... More
