Historically the square where the Afrikaners got together for market days and other big occasions like the monthly Holy Communion. Now only a small garden with a statue of Paul Kruger and four armored Boers. The buildings around still have their historical facades and the old Raadsaal is also an interesting building which houses the seat of the ZAR Boer... More

Well what is s people without history, Paul Kruger and his soldiers are in the middle of the Church Square in Pretoria. It is a beautiful, sobering or gloomy sight, depending on which side of the rainbow you look at it from. The square surrounded by old beautifully designed buildings of stone, the Post Office, The Law chambers, First National... More

It was a little desolate when we visited, but we were glad to see a fence around the Paul Kruger statue and that the vandalism done previously to the monument had been repaired.

I like Paul Kruger and that's why i came here. But there is no police and security around this square, unlike union building, the ambience here is different. Especially if u r asian, u better go with local friends.

I stopped there the other day. The parking attendees wanted me to pay upfront, so I did. When I came back to get in my car to leave, wanted more money. I told them i already game them money and then got in my car. The started screaming at me and pulled my door open. I pulled my door out... More

Great heart of the capital city, lovely architecture and always bustling. Many stories of South Africa start and end here. There was roadworks going on recently so be aware of this

Previously visited about seven years ago before the Kruger statue was fenced off. My memory of that visit was of a lively square with plenty going on. Today I couldn't wait to leave this drab, smelly, dirty place. My husband commented afterwards that he thought we were probably the only tourists there - and when I thought about it I... More

I always stop to admire the old buildings when I am there, the Old Raadsaal, the Old Capitol Theatre, and the Tudor Chambers. That's to say if I can get there. Construction makes it difficult to access but when that is completed hopefully it will be a pleasure. Then I aim for Café Riche on the western side of the... More
