I love The Tatham. Whether it is to view an exhibition, check out random works or attend one of the many arranged lectures and workshops, this gallery is an amazing place to be at. The institution is well managed with committed and attentive staff members. Local South African artists are nicely exposed to the world with various artworks and media... More

We stopped on route to the Drakensburg Mountains in order to give our legs a stretch....we walked through the town looking for somewhere to grab a cuppa before the rest of our journey & happened on the gallery. What a delight to find. The art (all different styles) was so interesting to see. The little curio shop lovely & the... More

Tatham Art Gallery has held my imagination ever since I was a little girl and read a review about it in an age old newspaper. With a dear friend (Reena Bhoodram) now working as their Education Officer, I am able to access this treasure trove whenever I can. The art collections are all breath-taking, showcasing the immense talent of our... More

The Tatham is the most amazing gallery--it has diverse collections, seems to promote art in the city and has dedicated and enthusiastic staff. There is safe parking outside if you are worried about the city center. It is a beautiful space that hosts exhibitions regularly. It also hosts music recitals. The coffee shop is a good place to refresh --one... More

Lovely old building with a good selection of artworks, a great café and friendly staff. Some rooms were under renovation when we visited.

The gallery has a great collection and provides a respite from the mayhem that has come to characterize Pietermaritzbergs inner city (blues). Nice little coffee shop with a good blend and friendly staff. I'll be back for sure.

This art museum is a superb surprise. The curator(s) has done a magnificent work in defining the relevance of South African art in modern art. The cafe is also lovely and serves a great brownie. The collection is remarkable. Here you can admire anything from Alexander to Battiss. I really, really like their "royal staircase", where they have great paintings... More
