This is a unique experience and a special animal. The chance to be so close and to touch one of the most dangerous animals in Africa was special for us.

Saw the reviews about her in TA and was curious. We were staying at the Kapama and the visit to Jessica was made by the lodge's front desk. We had to wait 3 days to be able to visit her, because it was raining a lot and we interact with her by the river. It was such a different and... More

We were camping at Swadini Forever Resort December 2016 - our 1st time in Hoedspruit. We went exploring and found JESSICA THE HIPPO! Wow what an awesome experience to see a Hippo sooooooo close, touch and feel and feed! My daughter and 2 other visitors even kissed Jessica! A short visit but something VERY different and entrance fee is going... More

This truly is a very pampered hippo... But is something well-worth doing if you're in the area. A short video introduces you to Jessica's backstory, and after that you'll get the opportunity to stand on a raft on the riverbed and feed her apple, sweet potato, and of course that sweet warm rooibos tea. It's an absolutely bizarre feeling looking... More

First you watch a video about Jessica then you go out to the river and stand on a raft and wait for her to join you. She lets you feed her sliced yams and give her a drink of warm, sweet tea from a bottle while you pet her face. Jessica is as free as she wants to be and... More

We got their early in the morning so it was her first snack for the day, and she loved her rooibos tea. We really had an awesome time meeting her. We were lucky to meet the baby hippo who has a similar story to Jessica. Overall was really awesome!

There's nothing positive that I may add that hasn't been said or written about Jessica Hippo or the experience of meeting her. I take my hat off to her family who allow these visits which is directly at their home, there has been nothing tricked up and you don't exit thru the obligatory shop. It truly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience... More

I was a little reticent at first thinking we were visiting an animal in captivity. Not exactly what we went to Kruger for. But it was not the case. Jessica was rescued by the resident family from certain death following a flood. She is however free and wild and regulkarlky visits other hippos in the wild but has become accustomed... More

This is a must see. Jessica has been living with this family for many years. She is not a pet but part of the family. Small groups of guests may feed her fruit that is prepared. If you are in a very small group of 2 or 3 you may even give her - her bottle. She is friendly and... More
