Enjoy a living, noisy and intriguing city as we manoeuvre through its busy streets. History, culture and architecture are woven into our story. We find our way to the colourful Bo-Kaap, the country's oldest Muslim area, (it is recommended that ladies carry a scarf to cover the shoulders, in the event that we enter a mosque), step into St. George's Anglican Cathedral and enjoy a stroll through the Company's Gardens where we pass Parliament, the National Library and Tuynhuis, the President's official town residence. We enter Groote Kerk, the country's oldest church and allow the story of slavery to unfold as we pass the former Slave Lodge and look at the Slave Memorial on Church Square. The walk then leads to the Grand Parade, lined by the City Hall where Mandela gave his first speech as a free man, and the Castle built on the city's original shoreline. The story of District Six is told, historic murals and grand art deco buildings are discovered. The walk ends on bustling Greenmarket Square, dominated by the Methodist Church and Old Townhouse.

The walks last about 2.5 hours and can be handled by anybody, there is no steep uphill except for a gentle rise towards Bo-Kaap.

The tour takes place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, starting at 11h00 and are conducted in English and/or German, depending on the composition of the group.

No prior booking is necessary during the summer season, although in the winter months from May to end September it is advisable to book. Just come to meeting venue in 66 Loop Street/ cnr Hout Street to purchase your ticket.

The fee for adults is R 250.00 per person (cash only). Accompanied children under 14 walk free.

N.B. It is advisable you come by taxi. Cape Town's streets are heavily congested and parking is extremely difficult to find.

This 2.5 hour walking tour is a leisurely and thoroughly enjoyable introduction to the history and geography of Cape Town. It is run by Ursula Stevens, who has lived in the city for over 30 years and is very knowledgable about its past and present. We did a historical tour with Ursula around Cape Town. It was raining when we started but in no way dampened the tour. Ursula was so informative and entertained us as we walked around the points of interest. Well worth it if you have the time.

Ursula was a great tour guide and walked us through many historical parts of Cape Town describing the evolution and painting pictures of what it looked like in the past.

Went with our group of French teenagers from Reunion Island on a tour of Cape Town with Ursula. She loves her town, the history and the people who live in this beautiful city. We particularly enjoyed Bo-Kaap, we visited one of the Mosque, a first experience for us, the kids were attentive during the 2-hour tour and we were all... More

thank you very much for your kind words. Indeed, it was great fun walking with these enthusiastic young people and introducing them to so many, for them, unknown things. I am glad that we managed to enter the mosque in Bo-Kaap, a part of Cape Town that shows the many cultural layers of our wonderful city. Enjoy the rest of... More

We had a wonderful tour with Ursula today. It was like a visit with and old friend. She was knowledgable, pleasant and patient. It was very obvious she had the respect of many in the community which afforded us some 'behind the scenes' experiences. She shared that she has been giving these tours foe sixteen years, but it seemed as... More

On the day we went on the tour it was just Ursula, my friend, and I. She does a great job of pointing out history that rests in plain sight, things you would not have noticed without her expertise. The walk through Bo-Kaap and her depth of knowledge were impressive. For a first time visitor, it's a good intro with... More

Yesterday I went on a great walking tour of Cape Town with Ursula and this is an experience that you shouldn't miss. Ursula guides in English and German and she has a wonderful way of bringing the city's history to life. I particularly enjoyed discovering the architectural variety of the downtown area and the rich history of the Bo-Kaap.
