Had a good guide he was very knowledgeable about this place. Basic history about a bunch of colorful houses and too pricey. Not worth a special trip.

Actually walked the streets as you miss so much in the car. The houses are all colours of the rainbow and so well kept. The history of Bo-kapp is so interesting, just a shame that there are plans afoot to possibly change the area, or...More

It is a small neighbourhood in right near Bree St. We went on a public holiday which worked in our favour I think because it wasnt as crowded as I have read in other reviews. The houses are cute and Bo-Kaap is best seen by...More

We were encouraged to visit Bo-kaap but were a little disappointed to find it was basically an area of relatively uninteresting houses which had fairly recently been brightened up with a jazzy paint job. Perhaps we were a bit jaded after a long flight but...More

The Main Street into Bo-kaap is one of the best streets in Cape Town! The colours are stunning and they are well looked after in terms of the lack of peeling paint. Every building along the street is perfectly presented. This adds to the vibrancy...More

This is the Cape-Malay area of Cape Town. The houses which are painted in very bright and vibrant colours are brilliant. There are a few restaurants offering cape Malay food. At least drive up the street if not walk it!

Spent many hours meandering these colorful streets and it was very difficult to connect with the people (something I am used to do wherever I go). Most seemed very weary, tired, frustrated, etc. It gave my visit a fairly dark mood. I never feared for...More

This colourful neighbourhood in the centre of town is an absolute must do BUT you have to walk into the small streets beyond Main Street. The houses are painted very colourful, one weirder the other. However, since nearly everyone has a car – and since...More

Loved the story of how these properties got their distinct colours. Also really enjoyed the tour of the little museum. The restaurants and small shops are fabulous especially if you like Asian or Indian foods.

Would suggest that a take a slow drive through the neighbourhood first. Then you park at Wale Street and take some pics nearby of the picturesque homes.

I agree, the area is pretty safe during daytime, so you can walk around on your own. But it is nice to get the full impact of the neighbourhood by joining a walking tour and get to know the history behind the coloured... More
