Groot Constantia is South Africa's oldest wine producing estate, (est: 1685). Situated 20 minutes from Cape Town central and one of the Big 6 tourist destinations, Groot Constantia is a must visit. With two fine restaurants, Jonkershuis and Simon's (contact details on website), wine tastings, chocolate and wine pairing, cellar tours and a museum that reminds one of a bygone era, this beautiful historic winery is a popular attraction.

Beautiful gardens, doing the oldest wine estate in South Africa proud. However, disappointed in the wine tasting and sales area as looked in need of a thorough clean and why is the museum under renovation in what must be the busiest time of the year?

The Groot Constantia Wine estate is beautifully situated with its back to some majestic mountains. We booked a tour and were looking forward to the experience. In one word: disappointing! The guide clearly was not interested in any interaction and rushed trough the 1 hour tour and tasting in 3 quarters of an hour. The wines we tasted were rather... More

A fantastic insight to an amazing estate with a great history told by superb staff. My partner and I went on a lovely day in November. I would add to book the cellar tour with the chocolate to go with the wine. The 5 small bars of chocolate are a beautiful addition to the 5 wines which are offered -... More

Great scenery, knowledgeable & friendly staff & perfect tasting wine. My girlfriend & I book the cellar wine & chocolate tasting tour. This was delicious. 5 different wines (2 white & 3 red) along with a little bar of chocolate especially created for each of those wines - perfect combination for each other. Got to know the great history of... More

Visiting the grounds is admission free and you can pay individually for a visit to their museum, for the wine tasting, and their winery tour. Otherwise, there's a couple of restaurants on the property and the ability to walk around the property and adjoining winery. The hop on hop off bus goes directly to their parking lot.

Groot Constantia Estate is incredibly beautiful throughout the whole year! There are 2 restaurants Jonkershuis and Simon's. Recently they started their market as well on saturdays and sundays. Whether you go for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a wine tasting or just a walk it is the perfect way to spend a day...

I felt this was a very reasonable tasting for the price as you get 5 tastings, well poured, get to keep the glass, and the atmosphere of the place is very nice with locale artwork to look at while enjoying.

My wife and I lunched here on a Sunday and were so impressed with the quality of the food and the service and enjoyed it so much we returned the following week.

Staying in Cape Town with a tight amount of time to enjoy all this great city/country has to offer. That said, this winery has excellent service from the minute you arrive. Well speaking staff are well trained and understand their product, ( a four star rating from an average wine drinkers palate). Beautiful grounds and vineyard with scenic views. This... More

Hello I was at Groot today and the wine and chocolate is great. But the service is not up to the standards as an Italian or Canadian tasting experience. But if you have some time on your day check it out for the wine tastes great. I'm not saying the service was horrible. But if you have been to a... More
