safe for swimming. Lovely cliff walks. Great views all along the coastline. Very good restaurant yards away from the beach called Dutchies. Good facilities.

A fantastic beach, lond stretches of white sands. Dutchies cafe is well established and a tented cafe has appeared on the beach, this plays loud, intrusive music and appears a law unto itself, a great pity as a unique location is being moved wuickly down, arket by this.

Went recommended by a lodge. Nice beach with its own lagoon. A walk here in a slow path is good for both your body and brain. If you are lucky you might see some kitesurfers. Some of them are extremely skilled.

Grotto is the prime beach in Hermanus and correspondingly popular. You could walk for miles to the east towards Gansbaai. I just swim there - or not so much swim as cool off. Sea temperature in midfebruary is 15 deg which is invigorating. There's an area marked off where you're advised to swim, the currents and backwash are pretty ferocious;... More

A little bit wind swept but nice beach with clean toilets, life guard and beds for rent. We only had time for one day but it really was a very good beach.

Nice, clean beach with a great bar and restaurant (Dutchies). Umbrellas and beds for rent here. The ocean is quite cold

Had a really wonderful time at Grotto beach, walking along the surf on the white sandy beach for an hour. You could go much, much further...that is when the river has not broken through to the sea. The river/lagoon also provides alternative swimming, kayaking and kite-surfing area, adding to the diversity of this area and making it very appealing. Dutchies... More

Stunning pristine white beaches with the ocean lapping at your feet. Grab a ice cream from the local stand and have a long leisurely walk along the beach. Dogs are welcome provided they are on a leash. Revitalising

This was our favourite beach near Hermanus. We rented sun loungers, swam in the waves, enjoyed ice cream (and toilets) and then spent the early evening eating fish and chips at the beach restaurant. It doesn't get any better!
