We had a fabulous day there, hiking up to the waterfall, with fabulous plants/feinboos, birds and tortoises. We then hiked up part of Adder Ladder for the view over the hill and to see unspoilt and unburnt swaves of feinboos. We didn't meet a soul and it was wonderful. Shame there is no coffee place by the car-park of even... More

So many kind of flowers, plants, insects. You really have stand still now and then to notice the small proves of nature. It was nice and quiet.

This review if for the inland Fernkloof nature reserve that you reach by driving uphill through houses, turning left of the road travelling East out of Hermanus. I was hopeful that in late spring we would still see plenty of fynbos and we weren't disappointed. Every step seemed to introduce a new species many of which were in full flower.... More

We walked along the cliff top from Hermanus until we had seen enough and turned back. There is such a variety of flora and fauna that there is always something to see. Sadly, we were too late for the whales - they had left a couple of weeks earlier - but we saw dolphins, birds and various other animals that... More

We Thoroughly enjoyed our coastal walk through the reserve. We chose to do both ways and did 18 k in total including walking around Hermanus. We. Saw a great variety of birds and windflowers and stopped off several times at the whale watching vantage points. We were rewarded on the way back by sightings of a whale and her calf.... More

Lovely scenic path around the coastline. We did around 6k. An easy, mainly flat walk. Well worth doing for the views and natural foliage

The nature reserve has inland hiking trails as well as the cliff paths. We walked the cliff paths in both directions from Hermanus and the sea views on some strectches were outstanding. It was great to see the waves crashing on the rocks. There were even some boys diving from the rocks one day, supported by lifeguards so it might... More

Fernkloof is a short drive from the town centre of Hermanus. There is plenty of space to sit and relax in the shade as well as lots of paths to explore from short strolls to several hours walking in the hills. We saw tortoises, lots of birds and a mongoose, as well as lots of fynbos.

Fernkloof Reserve actually consists of several areas incl. the well know cliff path and the less well known inland section with hill hiking and gardens. ALL sections are worth a visit....some for their great ocean views and the others for the amazingly varied flora (particularly in spring), mountain views and fabulous hiking and birdlife. There´s really something for everyone and... More
