I remember visiting this beautiful Church 17 years ago and the organ was being played. It had the most amazing atmosphere and beautiful stained glass windows. I took my husband on this visit (I am from England) he loved it and someone was playing the organ this time too - enchanting. Highly recommend.

The volunteers who welcome visitors are so enthusiastic about their church which really enhanced our visit, they suggested we climb the steep staircase to view one of the little exhibits (but sadly they could not find the light switch so we could really see it) after we'd sat peacefully imbibing the spirit of the main church. The regular cross design... More

Located at the cross roads of where town meets gown, this part original church was one of the first in South Africa, hence its name “Mother Church”. Well worth a visit to admire the history of the town – they even have two small museums inside the church. Its pulpit is also noteworthy for its design.

The church is not to be missed when visiting Stellenbosch. The guides (all unpaid volunteers) went out of their way to make us feel welcome and explain everything. Ask to see the short video on the history of the church (available in English, German, French, Afrikaans and isiXhosa) which explains everything bout this, the second oldest church in South Africa

Well worth putting on your list of places to visit - the stained glass windows are very good. It does not have extensive grounds.

Our favourite church in the world! Attended 2 services, one on Christmas morning. Services are given in Afrikaans. Interesting and precious history. Lovely interior. Zorada is the organist. She is so talented and plays the organ like you've most probably never heard it before. A must experience!

We toured this beautiful church when we stayed in Stellenbosch. It has a gorgeous pipe organ. It is a peaceful place to visit and has a small historical room that explains the history of the church and town. I especially appreciate the fact that the history was written in English. We went in November, which is late spring for South... More

The church is closed until January 16 for renovation. Still worth a stroll-by when visiting the old town of Stellenbosch. Very nice cafes and restaurants in the vicinity.
