As is the case in many Spanish and Portuguese towns, there is a desire to recover the memory of when the Jewish people were there. Nevertheless, there is not too much which is truly Jewish left after more than 500 years since their expulsion. But...More

We wandered the narrow, steep, cobblestone streets, with well preserved, tiny houses either side. Some of the houses were being renovated. This area is just below the castle and the synagogue is situated within this area. Worth a visit.

Its all still there: the streets with the signs, the buildings, the environment. The museum is also worth the visit

No maps or apps needed. Just wander about the steep winding cobbled lanes and you will be delighted. When lost, we always knew the direction to take: UP. Eventually you will make your way to the castle with perhaps a brief stop at the synagogue...More

We just walked around and enjoyed it very much. Seeing the small streets with flowers was nice. The old buildings and still very good taken care of, was nice to see. Just start near the castel and walk back to the centre.

Amazing, well preserved Jewish quarter. Winding narrow cobblestone paths, Star of David on the paths and looking closely on the doors one can find the Anusim crosses . Very moving place to visit

I walked around here and it pretty much looks like the rest of the old city, with the exception being I noticed some Jewish stars on the sidewalk. There's a small museum, which was nice, but the exhibits were only in Portuguese. They gave me...More

This area just below the castle is a well-preserved Jewish Quarter from the Middle Ages. The houses are tiny and the streets are very narrow and amazingly steep! Some houses include small businesses. The centerpiece is the synagogue. Well worth a visit!

There are many Jewish quarters all over Europe but not many from the middle age and none from this period so well preserved as this one. One should also underline the role of the municipality considering the promotion and preservation of the Jewish buildings like...More
