A bit hard to find, but a very enjoyable place for a good walk. The entrance fee is reasonable € 2.60 per person, and you'll get a map to navigate by. Don't miss the tidal mill that uses water entering a tidal flat to mill grain when the tide goes out.

We were greeted by the friendly park guardian who sold us tickets and gave us the maps and information sheet. We only had an hour but we walked and enjoyed reading the really interesting information boards on various aspects of the fauna, the old tidal mill was really interesting too. Beautiful park and well worth the visit, wish we had... More

We went to the Environmental Eduction centre of Marim to see a part of the Natural Park of Ria Formosa in Olhão. It was only €2.60 each to get in and they provide you with a map of the area and some information about the park. The park itself was lovely, set out with a few different trails. Lots of... More

We took a very enjoyable and interesting boat tour of the Ria Formosa Nature Park. The tour cost Euro25 per person and lasts 3.5 hours. The boat we went on only took 12 people. Stopped at the island of Barreta (or ilha deserta) for an hour, enough time for a snack and drink. Mostly quaint holiday homes and a lighthouse.... More

We went to several different areas to view wildlife including ponds in the resort Quinta do Largo. We saw so many species, common pochard, swamphen, flamingos, ibis, and grebes. Quinta do Largo is one of the best places to go if you want to be outside and hike around. Later, we even took a small boat trip out of Olhao.... More

This park is formed around old fisheries, salt flats and mill ponds right next to the coast with its reed beds. Its wonderful scenery, beautiful flora and fauna, fantastic for bird watching. And a lovely walk.

Wonderful natural beauty and a must see on any travelling tour of the Algarve region. Boat tours are inexpensive, especially approaching winter, with the weather still better than anything comparable in the UK.

One visit was not enough so much to see from roman salt pits to a restored tide mill excellent easy walks with visitors centre and cafe all within walking distance from Olhao - take the camera as we saw spoonbills egrets and storks with masses of small birds and if you are lucky may spot a chameleon

What a wonderful area of the Algarve, Portugal. Totally natural islands and waterways. If you love bird-watching you will love this area. Flamingos, oyster catcher and Cormorants in abundance.

A hidden gem that can easily be missed - have visited many times and never fail to see something new - how can something some beautiful sit next to industrial estate?
