Built at the turn of the century (1900) as a home for a wealthy businessman in style of a medieval castle the torreon del monje houses a pretty expensive cafe/ Restaurant today. In the lobby are some old pictures informing about the history of the building.

Fake "castle" close to the beach. It's only a medium sized, extremely high priced restaurant inside, next to a souvenir shop and an "art fair". I cannot evaluate the food quality since we were not served when sitting in the restaurant. So we left.

This is a highly recommended place to visit. It has an amazing view of the shore and the city. The cafe inside the building is excellent. We had a great coffee with croissants. Nice service, free WiFi (no passcode, yes, that's good !). Don't miss it.

be really careful if you decide to visit here based off the location in trip advisor. The pictures show this location as being on the beach, however the map shows this location as inland. The map location is actually in the ghetto. Mar del Plata is mostly safe, but you don't want to walk through the slums. Trip advisor is... More

Take a Leisurely walk along the shore and head to this grand monument. It is a perfect place to stop for a coffee and snack with a gorgeous view of the ocean. Go from here to the Guemes St for a memorable stroll down its delightful row of shops

We spent a most delightful evening at the Torreon. The staff were most helpful and helped with our choices of various courses. The ambiance of the different rooms made this a very special place to visit with friends. The food was well prepared; the portions were of a good size and the service was excellent. Well worth a visit.

The Torreon is an evergreen attraction. We found the atmosphere to be wonderful. The food and Malbec wine also complemented the whole experience marvellously. The level of service was also impressive ! The wonderful waiter even took the time to explain the history of the 'monje' and attendant monks ! There are also interesting walks and vantage points surrounding the... More
