Interesting to read of the origin of this Cathedral as it appeared after the destructive earthquake. Worthy of a visit and best in the evening when open and lighting is on. It's location across from the Plaza makes for an additional item of interest in same location

The old colonial cathedral that was destroyed in the earthquake must have been architecturally beautiful. The new cathedral that has taken its place however, is nothing special. It's very modern and unfortunately lacks the atmosphere you find in older churches, but pop in when you're in San Juan to say you've been there and see for yourself. (I found the... More

Modern and nothing remarkable to look at from the outside, but inside its really quite nice and airy, and obviously very different from the old colonial-style little church's you see around the north and west regions of Argentina. Worth a side-trip to admire.

This is a small province and many of its buildings were destroyed during two earthquakes. Most buildings, like this cathedral are modern. The tower being one of the tallest buildings in San Juan, the view is very impressive.
