We hiked to Refugio Frey from the carpark of the Catedral ski village. The first part of the hike offers views of Lago Gutierrez and is relatively flat. The next part of the hike is quite steep in places and winds through a beautiful forest....More

So I thought I'd write this review firstly on the experience I had at and around Refugio Frey, but also to provide some comparison between Bariloche and the other Argentinian and Chilean hotspots of El Chalten and Torres Del Paine. Firstly Frey and the surrounding...More

We camped one night and although the hike up isn't too scenic, the view at the top was nice. As we were camping we were only allowed 'sit' in the refugio (had to cook outside in the weather) however for whatever reason we weren't allowed...More

This is a great refugio and base for trekking the mountain paths above Bariloche. There are two possible treks to get to the refugio. We took the one from Villa Catedral and walked for about 4 easy hours. The facilities are basic, but this is...More

As others have said, do the hike “por el filo” version if you like a little adventure and have a head for heights and somewhat exposed trails. It’s a different experience, loved it, did it twice. From the base of Cerro Catedral, take the lift...More
