-InglishThe native fuegian people did't leave stone buildings or monuments or paintingson rock, and the physical remains of their cultures are usually hidden from sight, buried just below the vegetation. They are very vulnerable to mining and oil-related activities, which require the use of quarries and widespread soil removal. They are also vulnerable to the rise in population and economic activities, which require the continuous opening of roads and the urbanization of public lands. If we fuegians are to love our land, and look after it, we believe it is important to know the history of our ancestors. That is why we decided to install a museum, using dioramas to show how life was long ago, in the times of the Yamana, the Shelk'nam, and the first european colonizers.Ushuaia is a tourism center, which allows us to keep the museum open without government aid or subsidies, by charging an entrance fee to our visitors.Throughout the year we receive the visit of schools, without charge. The museum organizes annual cultural events, and takes part in events organized by others.-EspanolSi los fueguinos hemos de amar a nuestra tierra, y cuidarla, creemos importanteconocer la historia de nuestros antecesores.

We wanted to visit this museum, but it was not featured on any of the visitor maps they handed out at the tourist office and when we went looking for it anyway, we discovered that it is closed unfortunately.

This is a well presented museum giving a history of the area and information about the Yamana and other native people. The video footage was really interesting. Definitely worth a visit.

A nice little museum showcasing the challenging lives of the indigenous peoples of Tierra del Fuego. Good to learn about what it was like to live at the end of the world before european invasion.
