We drove to the end of Hwy 130, where there are a number of bike concessions on both sides of the road. We rented mountain bikes from a concession on the right, just past the hotdog stand, for $10 each. For 4 people, we had...More

Even though you're now set back a little from the actual lava flow, it still is truly amazing. We watched in awe at the lava flowing into the ocean like a tap while the waves crashed up against it - it was mesmerising! We hired...More

We went twice. Our first time was during the day and we rented bikes from the first ones on the left, I believe it was Kalapana Cultural Tours. They asked if we wanted the standard bikes, or upgrade to a nicer bike. Since we aren't...More

Seeing the lava flow was awesome. You can view it from the park from a distance or the site where you bike ride in. The bike ride is eerie as you go through lava fields but you can actually get up close to real lava.

From Kilauea, the kids wanted to go watch the lava flow to the ocean (and, the adult driver thought it would be cool too). Be aware, it's a 45 mile drive from the National Park Visitor Center, north on Hwy 11, then east on Hwy...More

The view of the lava was really cool. Worth the bike ride to get there. It's 9 miles round trip and very hilly. You can rent bikes there for $10-30 or they have electric ones for $60. We chose the very first vendor for bikes....More

First, we went at night meaning we started our walk after the sun had set and got back to our car at 11pm. Therefore it was not hot at all, but it is a very long walk 9 miles round trip on an easy dirt...More
