Lovely area for a short hike. Go up to Observation Point, it's a little strenuous but not too bad, and worth it.

Garden Canyon is the major drainage coming down the east side of the Huachuca Mountains. It is mostly within the boundary of Fort Huachuca. Starting in the foothills near a set of firing ranges, the canyon climbs to the crest of the range. Along the...More

First of all, you will need your military pass or apply for and get a visitor's pass issued to you in one short visit. AZ residents' pass is good for a year. Out-of-state visitors' passes are good for a much shorter time.

Moderately easy drive to the end of the road at Vanishing Trail. Part of the way is a dirt road. Two pictograph sites to explore. Quiet peaceful with no other people around. A lot of wild life to see even a 8 point buck.

I am feeling a bit torn about telling people how great this place is. The first time I went in early spring with a group - we were the only people in the canyon. I've been dozens of times since and seen only two other...More

This is a great place to actually see trees and flowers in the desert. The natural water gives a greater variety of plants and wildlife than down on the valley floors, with ample opportunity to see birds, especially hummingbirds. A very relaxing day destination with...More

We almost didn't get to Garden Canyon on our trip to SV, but finally made it there in the last week. You must have a guest pass to get on the Ft. Huachuca grounds, but after that you can wonder around at your will. The...More

Unfortunately Garden Canyon is located on and only accessible through the Fort Huachuca Army base. Only people with a military or military related ID are able to access it.

It is free. Hiking is optional as the road goes nearly to the top of the canyon. However, this is on a military installation and only military, families and others with official access to the base are allowed to visit.

It is free. Hiking enhances your experience, but there is much to see from your vehicle. This is a rough road. If you are looking a scenic drive, there are more accessible destinations.
